I can still remember the exact moment it hit me that I was a frizzy girl. I was getting ready with my girlfriends before a night out, and after the group of us had finished rough-drying our hair, I noticed a stark difference between their end results and mine. While their hair looked sleek and smooth, my hair looked like I had just been jolted by a shock of static electricity — and not just at the top of my head, but everywhere. Since that moment, I've been on a mission to find products that help cut down on frizz, but it's been a journey.

I know there are quite a few in-salon treatments that work for my hair type, but as someone constantly on the go, I don't have time to pop into the salon every time I want my hair to look its best. So, when I heard about Amika's latest launch, the Smooth Over Frizz-Fighting Treatment ($32), I figured I would give it a go. I was not prepared for the results.

Keep reading for my full review of the Amika Smooth Over Frizz-Fighting Treatment and find out why it's landed a permanent spot in my shower.

What I Like About the Amika Smooth Over Frizz-Fighting Treatment

First things first, let's talk about the scent. If you've ever used an Amika product before, chances are you know exactly what I'm referring to. The fragrance of the brand's products is nothing short of amazing, and this treatment is no different — it smells absolutely delicious. It isn't too overpowering, but it's strong enough that if I shake my hair just the right way, I can smell it. It even got me a compliment recently while on a date.

It's also super user-friendly. The nozzle tip makes it easy AF to apply in the shower, and the consistency is perfect for spreading over my entire head. It also only takes a minute to work, which passes quickly while I shave my legs or wash my face.

And most importantly, it actually works. Before trying this product, I wouldn't have been caught dead leaving my house with just rough-dried hair. Now, though? I could genuinely go out on a date after doing just that. It cuts down on a ton of frizz, but it still somehow manages not to weigh my hair down, which gives me a wild amount of volume and bounce. The pictures prove it.

How to Use the Amika Smooth Over Frizz-Fighting Treatment

The brand says you should start by cleansing and conditioning in the shower as usual and squeezing out any excess water from your ends. Next, fully saturate your hair with the treatment from the mid-lengths of your hair to the ends. Let the treatment sit for one minute, then rinse. Heat-styling will yield the best results, according to the instructions.

I use the product exactly as instructed. When I get out of the shower, I grab a microfiber towel to soak up excess water, apply my heat protectant, and then rough-dry using a blow dryer and just my hands. I finish by styling with my Dyson Airwrap.

What to Consider Before Trying the Amika Smooth Over Frizz-Fighting Treatment

One thing to note about this product is that it's not meant to last through multiple washes. To me, it's not a big deal to add this step to my routine every time I wash my hair because it only tacks on an extra minute, but it's something to be aware of. If you want the frizz-fighting effects of this product, you'll need to use it every time you wash your hair.
