8 Reasons You Need to Rewatch Sister, Sister — as If You Really Needed Them

Sister, Sister recently landed on Nielsen's list of most-streamed shows after it hit Netflix in September (along with six other iconic Black TV shows), and to be honest, I wasn't surprised. When I first heard that the beloved series would be coming to Netflix, I was so beyond excited! Personally, there are only a handful of shows and movies that I can rewatch and still enjoy today, and Sister, Sister ranks high on that list.

The '90s sitcom — which features a total of six seasons and 119 episodes — stars real-life sisters Tia and Tamera Mowry, who play twin sisters who were separated at birth and are reunited when they accidentally bump into each other at a local mall. Jackée Harry, Tim Reid, Marques Houston, RonReaco Lee, and Deon Richmond also appear on the series.

In addition to the storyline and talented cast, the show has a bunch of hilarious quotes and incredible '90s fashion moments. Not to mention, there's just something so comforting and nostalgic about revisiting a show that a lot of us grew up with. Even though I was a lot younger than Tia and Tamera's characters when I first watched it, as an adult, I can now relate to a lot of the real-life issues the show highlights, so it just hits differently. Ahead, check out all the reasons why you need to rewatch Sister, Sister ASAP!

The Quotes — Need I Say More?

"Go home, Roger!" may be Tia and Tamera's most recognizable line, but you can always count on Lisa to bring the sass with her hilarious responses and Ray to say something intellectual that only he and Tia can understand.

Tia and Tamera's Tight-Knit Bond

Even though I'm an only child and can't relate, there's no denying that Tia and Tamera's sisterhood is unlike any other. Yeah, sure, they may not always agree with each other and they may even get into arguments here and there (hey, who doesn't?), but at the end of the day, their love and support for each other is much bigger than anything else and only gets stronger as the seasons go by.

One of the best parts about rewatching the series is spotting all the celebrities that guest starred, including Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Gabrielle Union, and the late Brittany Murphy, who had a recurring role throughout the show.

The Soundtrack Is Full of Iconic '90s Jams

Unfortunately, the Netflix version of Sister, Sister replaced Usher's "Slow Jam" with "Runnin" by Bellringer in the Cinderella-themed "Shoeless" episode; however, they didn't replace my personal fave, "The Only One For Me" by Brian McKnight, which plays during the "The Grass Is Always Finer" episode, where Tia develops a crush on her calculus teacher Keith. *insert "you lookin' for me?" quote here*

Also, let's not forget the iconic theme song, amirite?

From baggy jeans to bucket hats to plaid and tie-dye, the fashion on Sister, Sister is peak '90s cool girl. In fact, the style on the show is so good, you'll want to re-create some of the looks yourself.

It Hits Differently as an Adult

I was in elementary school when I first watched Sister, Sister, and as much as I loved the show, I never quite understood the struggles of being in high school and college and dealing with relationship issues — that is, until now. Rewatching Sister, Sister as an adult just hits differently; I now understand all of the inside jokes, I can relate to the characters better, and it almost feels as if I'm watching a whole new show.

It's Endless Nostalgia

Sister, Sister instantly transports me back to my childhood. I remember the days when I would eagerly look forward to coming home from school and flipping on the TV to see what Tia and Tamera were up to that day. And let's be real: there's nothing more soothing and comforting than watching a show with familiar faces and lines you can quote by heart. It's a mindless escape where I can just soak up all the warm and fuzzy moments and take a break from everything else going on in my personal life and the world.
