Watch Teyana Taylor's Mom Call the Artist-Director to Break the News of Her 2023 BET Awards Win

Teyana Taylor is a BET Award winner — again! The multihyphenate took home the award for video director of the year Sunday night, and though she wasn't present for the ceremony, her mom, Nikki Taylor, made sure she got to enjoy her big moment in real time — by video calling her right from the stage.

Confused by her mother's video call in front of the crowd, Teyana said, "What is happening?" But after her mom informed her that she'd won, an excited Teyana ran out of the room before ultimately returning to deliver an impromptu acceptance speech (through the phone) filled with gratitude. Teyana last won the video director award in 2020.

Teyana is currently experiencing another big moment in her career after announcing her retirement from making music in 2020. The "K.T.S.E." singer kicked off the year with her first major leading movie role in Sundance Film Festival winner "A Thousand and One." The wife and mom of two gave an emotional performance that's already being discussed for award season — but that's not all. Lately, Teyana has also received praise for her creative director expertise, having worked with artists like Summer Walker, Latto, and Lola Brooke for their recent live performances.

Watch Teyana accept her 2023 BET Award in the clip ahead.
