Everett Collection

Playing Charles Manson isn't for the faint of heart, yet several actors have taken on the challenge — and with the fiftieth anniversary of the Manson family's heinous crimes fast approaching, new faces are diving into the terrifying role. In 2019 alone, we'll be treated to a couple new onscreen projects about the notorious cult leader and the grisly murders he was responsible for in the late 1960s: the Matt Smith-led Charlie Says opens in May, and Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, hits theaters in July.

Manson's menacing personality and erratic mannerisms have been portrayed onscreen since the '70s, with each performance seemingly aiming to uncover a new facet of his disturbing behavior. Keep reading to see the actors who have stepped into the role of Charles Manson so far.
