4 Katherine Langford Roles That You Need to See (Including 13 Reasons Why)

Everett Collection

Katherine Langford became a certified star in 2017 thanks to her role as Hannah Baker in Netflix's 13 Reasons Why. The demanding role allowed the 22-year-old to show Hollywood just how talented she is, and as a result, she earned a Golden Globe nomination. Hailing from Australia, the actress is still at the beginning of her career and only has a few credits to her name. However, they're pretty major credits, which likely speaks volumes about what the future holds for her.

While Hannah remains her most famous role to date, Langford has starred in a handful of movies already. There's no doubt this talented young actress should be on your radar for way more than 13 reasons, but for now, let's start by focusing on the four excellent reasons it's clear that Langford's career is only just getting started. Look back at her most notable roles to date before 13 Reasons Why returns on May 18.

01

13 Reasons Why

Netflix's intense teen drama gave Langford her breakout role. As Hannah, a young girl who commits suicide and leaves behind 13 tapes for the people she feels contributed to her death, Langford absolutely breaks your heart. She also makes you laugh, frustrates you, and takes you into the darkness along with her character. Watching as Hannah sinks deeper into depression as she faces more and more traumas is painful, but thanks to Langford's remarkable performance, it's also impossible to look away.

In fact, she's so good that Netflix simply couldn't let her go. Despite Hannah's story seemingly being wrapped up in the first season, Langford is returning for 13 Reasons Why season two later this year.

02

Love, Simon

Love, Simon tells the story of Simon (Nick Robinson), a teen who hasn't come out to his friends when he falls for an anonymous classmate online. Simon's decision to come out is taken out of his hands when another classmate outs him on the internet, leading him to share his sexuality with his friends and family, while also trying to figure out exactly who he has fallen in love with. By his side throughout the entire movie is Langford's Leah, his funny, sometimes insecure best friend, who is nurturing a major crush on Simon.

As Leah, Langford gets to play a lighter character who is quirky, loyal, and a complete joy to watch. In fact, Leah could get her own movie, considering the character is the focus of the sequel to Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, the book on which Love, Simon is based. Fingers crossed that Hollywood tells the rest of Leah's story, because more of Langford on the big screen can only lead to good things.

03

The Misguided

This Australian indie film didn't exactly make waves stateside, but Langford has a small, memorable role as Vesna, the girlfriend of one of the film's troublemaking brothers. The movie attempts a naturalistic look and feel that doesn't serve all of the actors. However, Langford rises to the challenge as she makes Vesna's concern for her boyfriend feel earnest and real.

04

Spontaneous

Filming for Spontaneous is currently underway, and this sci-fi film already marks a huge achievement for Langford: it's her first solo lead role in a major Hollywood film. According to Deadline, she's starring as Mara Carlye, a young girl whose classmates begin spontaneously combusting for no apparent reason. This leads to Mara and her friends trying to live life to the fullest because they never know which moment will be their last.

Langford's career is still in its early days, but the 13 Reasons Why star has already shown that she can do pretty much anything on screen. And that's the best reason of all to keep an eye on this rising star!
