The Most Important Wedding Playlist You Can't Forget to Make

POPSUGAR Photography | Reese Moore

Those who have planned a wedding know there is a lot of music to select: father-daughter dance songs, pop music to get guests dancing, music to walk down the aisle to, first-dance songs — the list goes on and on. But what about the music you don't want to hear? Before her wedding, my sister-in-law casually mentioned her "No-Playlist," all the songs she has banned from her wedding. Some are understandable, but some are kind of shocking. Take a look at every song she banished from the DJ booth, and why, and then think about what would be on yours.

01

"Chicken Dance" by Werner Thomas

Why? This one is pretty self-explanatory, but according to the bride, it's "overplayed."

02

"YMCA" by Village People

Why? It's "overrated."

03

"Conga" by Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine

Why? The whole conga-line thing is kind of a "waste of time."

04

Journey

Why? "Joe [the groom] said absolutely no Journey; apparently he got his fill in high school. I love Journey, so to compromise we can play my favorite Journey song."

05

"Cha Cha Slide" by DJ Casper

Why? She's really just not into these synchronized dances.

06

"I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor

Why? It's also "overrated."

07

"Stayin' Alive" by Bee Gees

Why? It's too cheesy.

Any Recent Justin Timberlake Songs

Why? "I'm not a huge fan of Timberlake's singles. I loved 'N Sync so maybe one throwback would be awesome, but for the most part, none of Timberlake's solo songs excite me."
