It's the question royal-watchers around the world were wondering as Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and her husband, Prince William, entered the final days of her second pregnancy. Nearly a week after her due date, Kate finally gave birth to a healthy baby girl, born Saturday morning amid tons of excitement — but were there signs all along that a princess was on the way?

William himself admitted that he and Kate didn't know their first child Prince George's gender until after he was born in 2013. While a number of outlets reported that William and Kate want to be surprised again, there was a growing consensus that royal baby number two would be a girl.

She Maybe Bought Pink Paint

The Daily Mail’s Sebastian Shakespeare reported that Kate ordered pink paint samples from high-end interior designer Annie Sloan for the family's country home, Amner Hall. Since renovations on the mansion were recently completed, it seems unlikely the paint would be used for anything besides a new baby's nursery.

She Wore Pink at Her Last Public Appearance

Kate donned a bright-pink Mulberry coat during what were her final official appearances before maternity leave, attending three events in London on March 29 with William. Was the garment a hint? Perhaps . . .

All Bets Are On

The British public evidently loves to bet on just about everything, including whether or not the new royal baby will be a girl or a boy. If current odds were to be believed, Kate was definitely having a girl according to the betters at Ladbrokes. People are also still betting on royal baby names.

She’s a Natural With Little Girls

Kate does seem to be in her element when she’s meeting with young female admirers. She’s a natural with kids in general, but there’s a ton of photo evidence that proved how sweet she’d be with a daughter.

She Shopped For Girls' Clothes

Kate looked at little girls' clothes during a shopping trip to the London boutique Amaia earlier this year. Whether Kate was shopping for a friend or for herself, she set tongues wagging.

She’s Really Into Sweets

Another report from the Daily Mail claimed that Kate told a friend she was convinced she’s having a girl because she couldn't stop eating sweets. She apparently loved buying treats at Humble Pie, a bakery near the family’s country home.
