Priyanka Chopra Navigated "Tumultuous" Romances Before Finding "Joy" With Nick Jonas

In her four decades, Priyanka Chopra has been crowned Miss World, acted in a number of Bollywood and Hollywood films, started her own production company, and even wrote a memoir. Chopra began her professional career in pageants, and after winning Miss World 2000, her acting career kicked off. Chopra made her acting debut in the 2002 international film "Thamizhan" and later starred in "The Hero: Love Story of a Spy" and "Andaaz," but she rose to fame following her role as Sonia Kapoor Roy in the 2004 romantic thriller "Aitraaz." Since then, she has become one of the most popular actors in India and is known for her large body of work in Bollywood — and, more recently, American projects, including NBC's "Quantico," "The Matrix Resurrections," and the new Amazon Prime series "Citadel."

Outside of her busy career, Chopra has been romantically linked to some of her film costars but for a long time mostly kept her personal life as private as possible. Her most notable relationship, of course, has been with singer Nick Jonas, whom she met in 2016 on Twitter. The two wed in December 2018 and share a daughter, Malti Marie, who was born via surrogate in January 2022, per People.

Aseem Merchant (Early 2000s)

Long before her marriage to Jonas, Chopra was rumored to have dated actor Aseem Merchant in the early days of her modeling career, sometime in the early 2000s, as reported by India Today. Not much is known about their relationship, and the two reportedly called it quits when Chopra started acting.

Harman Baweja (2008-2009)

In 2008, Chopra met actor Harman Baweja on the set of "Love Story 2050," and the two began dating shortly after. The relationship only lasted a year, with the two going their separate ways sometime in 2009. Baweja later told India Today that the split was due to his busy schedule, saying, "I blame myself. She kept asking me to give her time but I didn't. I couldn't. After two flops, I felt a lot of pressure to do well in my third film. I got too engrossed in it. I got too close to the project. Too involved."

Shahid Kapoor (2011-2013)

Chopra first connected with actor Shahid Kapoor while filming "Teri Meri Kahaani" in 2011. It's unknown how long the couple dated, but they reportedly split sometime in 2013, per The Hindustan Times.

Nick Jonas (May 2018-Present)

Back in September 2016, Chopra connected with Jonas Brothers singer Nick Jonas on Twitter. According to a joint interview with Vogue, Jonas DMed the actor, writing, "I'm hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet," to which she responded, "My team can read this. Why don't you just text me." Chopra said during an interview on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast in March 2023 that she was in a "tumultuous relationship" at the time, but did not specify who her former partner was.

Nonetheless, she and Jonas started casually texting and made waves in May 2017 when they appeared at the Met Gala together, leading many to speculate that they were dating. Things wouldn't become official until a year later in May 2018, though. According to People, Chopra and Jonas met each other's families a month later in June 2018, and by July 2018, they were engaged. The couple tied the knot in December 2018 and welcomed their daughter, Malti Marie, via surrogate in January 2022.

"You have brought me endless joy and happiness," Chopra wrote to Jonas in a May 2020 tweet. She added, "Thank you for making our life together so incredible."
