If you're hoping to catch a showing of Black Panther on opening weekend, you better act fast. Like, T'Challa hurling himself through the air to capture a bad guy fast.
The latest Marvel superhero outing, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Chadwick Boseman, doesn't hit theaters until Feb. 16, but it's already demolishing movie ticket presale records. Within the first 24 hours of presales going live, Fandango revealed that it's the bestselling Marvel Cinematic Universe movie (in terms of advance ticket sales). The hype surrounding Black Panther has been so strong that it's even managed to surpass Captain America: Civil War.
In addition to Boseman, the beautifully cast film also stars Lupita Nyong'o, Michael B. Jordan (as the villain, FYI), Danai Gurira, Angela Bassett, and Sterling K. Brown. The story picks up after the events of Civil War, with King T'Challa returning to Wakanda only to find that there are enemies conspiring to destroy his kingdom. Along with the help of CIA agent Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and Wakanda's badass special forces, the hero must suit up to prevent another world war.
"Black Panther is riding an incredible wave of momentum right now," Fandango editor Erik Davis said in a statement. "It's one of the biggest and most anticipated movies to ever open in the month of February, and its trailers have electrified the internet. Tickets have been going fast ever since presales started on Fandango late Monday."
Like we said — if you haven't gotten your tickets for Black Panther yet, drop whatever it is you're doing (yes, STOP READING THIS ASAP) and go buy them.
