And, ultimately, will it stay true to the books? We had a chance to sit down with Arjun Gupta, who plays Penny on the show, and he teased a few details about what's to come. Keep scrolling to see what he said, then check out five interesting connections the show has with Gossip Girl.
It's the Most Ambitious Episode Yet
The show has certainly pushed boundaries this season and the finale will be no different. "There’s so much that happens," Gupta said. "I can't underline enough how crazy this finale is."
There Is Finally a Confrontation With the Beast
After building up the anticipation for the past few episodes, Gupta assured fans that fans will finally get that battle they've all been waiting for.
The Beast’s Identity Will Also Be Revealed
If you've read the books, you know there is a big twist for who the Beast actually is. Thankfully, that will all be covered in the finale. "We won't tease you that much," Gupta added.
The Plot Is in Line With the End of the First Book
"There are a couple of tweaks," he told us. "There are slight differences, but the core and the essence of it is still told." That being said, he added that there is a possibility that season two might still have elements of the first book tied in. "We're taking the canon, taking the world, and telling all the stories."
Some Characters May Not Be Reunited With the Pack
"That is a big question to ask," he said. "At the end of 12, you see the four of us jumping into the Fillory fountain, but Julia and Quentin are in another time period. There's a lot to explore."
There's a Chance For a Few Easter Eggs
In episode 12, fans of the book were delighted when the character Josh actually makes an appearance on the show. Gupta revealed that there might be even more hidden gems to look forward to in the finale. "Sera [Gamble] and John [McNamara] and the whole writing staff are really smart about that stuff."
It Will End on a Cliffhanger
"It will be satisfyingly annoying," said Gupta. "Satisfying in that we tell a lot, but annoying that it will make you say, 'I want more.' There will be a lot of 'I want more.'"
It Will Also Be the Darkest Episode Yet
Gupta put it simply by saying, "Y'all ain't seen nothing yet." He also added, "It's like a bottomless cup of coffee; you just don't know where the bottom is."
