Everything You Need to Know About Jason Momoa's Netflix Show, Frontier
2016 was certainly Jason Momoa's year. Between making his first appearances as DC Comics demigod Aquaman and being cast to lead a buzzworthy reboot of The Crow, Momoa also surpassed 1 million Instagram followers and traveled the world. But that's not all; somewhere between all of his other commitments, Momoa also found the time to star in a new show for Discovery Canada called Frontier. The show impressed Netflix so much that the company ordered a second season before it even aired on Canadian and UK TV.
The premiere of the Canadian show was low-key, but reviews have been positive. However, unless you're able to access Discovery Canada in your country, you might be a bit clueless about what to expect from the series, which is out on Friday. We've gathered everything there is to know about Frontier, and it all boils down to this: it's going to be brilliant, bloody, and probably pretty buff.
The first preview for the show is gruesome, terrifying, and slightly sexy.
Oh yeah, this is a weekend-binger for sure.
Frontier is an "action-packed adventure drama" set in the 1700s.
According to Netflix's press site:
"The series is an action-packed adventure drama following the chaotic and violent struggle to control wealth and power in the North American fur trade in the late 18th century. Told from multiple perspectives, the series takes place in a world where business negotiations might be resolved with close-quarter hatchet fights, and where delicate relations between Native tribes and Europeans can spark bloody conflicts."
It's filmed in Newfoundland, Canada.
In order to capture the authentic setting of the Canadian fur trade, the cast filmed the action-packed series up in Canada.
The costumes are eccentric.
Momoa's snaps from the Frontier set show a wide variety of interesting 18th-century garb, including velvet suits and flowy blouses.
Momoa's character is named Declan Harp, and he's intense.
This video gives a bit of background on Momoa's character, a former government fur trader gone rogue. A mix of Irish and Native American, Declan Harp is quick with a hatchet and not afraid to spill blood during his quest to rule the fur trade.
Declan's group of rogue fur traders are called the Black Wolf Company.
They look intense, don't they? We anticipate some serious action from these guys over the course of the series.
You'll recognize other cast members, too.
Frontier also boasts talent from projects such as Downton Abbey, Twilight, Hemlock Grove, San Andreas, and The Theory of Everything.
It's already been renewed for a second season.
A second season of the show was ordered prior to its season one debut, so you have even more to look forward to!
The show hit Netflix on Jan. 20.
Go ahead, what are you waiting for? Watch it now!
