The Trailer For HSMTMTS Season 2 Includes New Drama, Rivals, and Show-Stopping Numbers

There is going to be plenty of drama in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season two, and we're not just talking about the theater department. On Thursday, Disney+ unveiled the first official trailer for the upcoming season, which premieres on May 14, and we're even more excited about the upcoming season. After doing High School Musical for their fall musical, the students at East High decide to do the natural followup with High School Musical 2. However, things go awry when Miss Jenn (Kate Reinders) runs into her ex-boyfriend (played by Derek Hough).

As the theater department moves forward with a new production of Beauty and the Beast, they are met with a few obstacles along the way. Nini (Olivia Rodrigo) has decided to leave East High and attend a theater school, separating her from her friends and boyfriend Ricky (Joshua Bassett), but there are also some new faces stirring up trouble. At one point Olivia Rose Keegan's new character Lily asks Ricky, "Sounds like your girlfriend wants some space. Let me know if you're looking for one who doesn't." Ruh-roh! Sounds like some trouble in paradise for Ricky and Nini.

The cast wasn't kidding when they said that this season would be far more dramatic than last. "There's new relationships, and new characters, and so much drama," Rodrigo previously told POPSUGAR. "You think you know what's coming, but you don't. It's always twists and turns." Plus, there are plenty of new musical numbers to look forward to, including new songs written by Bassett and Rodrigo, who have been embarking on their own solo music careers since the first season dropped.
