Iron Fist: What You Need to Know About Marvel's Latest Netflix Series

Thanks to Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Netflix has a pretty good reputation with Marvel fans by now. We're currently obsessed with anything and everything related to Luke Cage, but now it's all about Iron Fist. The latest show will fit into the greater universe of The Defenders. Here's what we know about the show, which is available on Netflix as of March 17!

What It's About

The protagonist of the story is Danny Rand, a young man who has been missing for years and suddenly returns home with some mysterious powers. Here's the synopsis, from Marvel:

Danny Rand returns to New York City after being missing for years, trying to reconnect with his past and his family legacy. He fights against the criminal element corrupting his world around him with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

Finn Jones Is the Star

Jones, aka Loras Tyrell from Game of Thrones, confirmed on Instagram that he would be taking on the role of Danny Rand/Iron Fist. "It's official," he wrote. "Thank you for all your kind words. I'm very excited and humbled to take on the role of Iron Fist. The character and his story resonates, I look forward to bringing him to life!"

While Jones looks like the comic-book character, many fans and critics were dismayed, claiming that Netflix missed an opportunity to cast an Asian-American actor in the role of the kung fu master.

Jessica Henwick Is the Female Lead

English actress Jessica Henwick, partially shown here with Jones, is playing female lead Colleen Wing. Coincidentally, she's also starred on Game of Thrones — as Nymeria Sand!

The Supporting Cast Is Just as Good

Former 90210 star Jessica Stroup (shown here on the set) was cast as Joy Meachum, a young woman who has spent her whole life building Rand Enterprises and is thrown for a loop when Danny returns. Also starring as members of the Meachum family are Tom Pelphrey (Banshee) and David Wenham (Top of the Lake).

There Will Be Crossover

Carrie-Anne Moss will be reprising her role from Jessica Jones, bringing Jeri Hogarth to the world of Iron Fist. "Carrie-Anne has fast become a fan-favorite part of our street level saga, and we share our viewers' excitement in bringing her into Marvel's Iron Fist," said executive producer/head of Marvel television Jeph Loeb in a statement on Marvel's website. "As Marvel fans know, Hogarth in the comics plays a critical role in the life of Danny Rand so it seems only fitting that Carrie-Anne join in."

The Set Pictures Look Slightly Hilarious

Pictures from the set showed up in April, and I'm going to be honest, they're silly as hell. Either the tone of the show is lighter than Marvel's other Netflix fare, or it'll be more serious once the footage hits the edit room.

The Trailer

The trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con in July and manages to pack a lot of information in despite its short length and lack of dialogue. We see young Danny Rand's plane crash in some snowy mountains and his subsequent rescue by Tibetan monks, as well as him as an adult, locked in what appears to be a psych ward, and finally a scene of him punching through a rather large wall. He also faces down someone with a pretty ominous voice that says, "Hello, Danny." What does it all mean?!?
