24 Shows We've Said Goodbye to in 2018
It's always sad when your favorite show goes off the air. Most of the time, shows are unceremoniously canceled with very little notice. But sometimes, TV shows and their creators are aware going into the final season that it's the last one, which lets them wrap things up nicely. Such is the case with some of the shows that ended in 2018 . . . but not all of them. As the year wraps up, let's look back on the 20 shows that have aired their final episodes. (And let's have a moment of silence for Being Mary Jane, which never got that two-hour finale movie that was promised.)
12 Monkeys
Ahead of the season three premiere, Syfy announced that season four would be the last season of this popular time-travel show. The last episode of the show aired over the Summer and ended on a happy note.
The Americans
This period spy-thriller came to an end earlier this year. The final season of The Americans had just 10 episodes, instead of the usual 13.
Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce
In a rare move for TV, Bravo renewed Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce for three seasons back in Spring 2016. It was revealed later that year that the fifth season, which aired this Summer, would be its last.
House of Cards
Netflix's political drama House of Cards ended in November with the release of its sixth season. The streaming service made the announcement after sexual harassment allegations were made against Kevin Spacey, the show's star and executive producer.
Major Crimes
The sixth season was the last for TNT's highest-rated scripted series, and the show ended in January 2018 after airing over a hundred episodes.
The Middle
Ahead of the season nine premiere, ABC announced that it would be the last season for the Heck family from Indiana. However, a spinoff series centered around Eden Sher's character Sue Heck is set to premiere in 2019.
Nashville
This country music drama, which moved from ABC to CMT in 2016, killed off its main character, Rayna James (Connie Britton), for the season five midseason finale, and things were never the same without her. The final season aired in Summer 2018 in two eight-episode runs.
New Girl
In a bit of a surprise, Fox decided to bring New Girl back for a wrap-up season with just eight episodes. There was a four-year time jump when the show returned this year.
The Originals
Parent show The Vampire Diaries bowed in 2017, and this year it was The Originals' turn. The final season premiered last Spring.
Portlandia
The eighth and final season of this satirical sketch show premiered last Spring.
Scandal
It was revealed before season six even ended that season seven would be the last for Shonda Rhimes's hit political soap. With Olivia Pope now in charge of both B-613 and the White House, Scandal went out with a bang.
Roseanne
Despite the popular sitcom being rebooted this year, the final episode of Roseanne aired last Summer following some controversy. However, a spinoff series called The Conners was rushed into production and began airing in the Fall.
Once Upon A Time
This fantasy drama series aired its final episode in Spring after a nearly seven-year run.
Quantico
Even though this action drama made a huge buzz after casting actress Priyanka Chopra in the lead, the show was canceled after three seasons and ended this Fall.
The Last Man on Earth
This dark comedy was canceled in the Spring after airing its fourth season, ending the show on a cliffhanger.
Shades Of Blue
This crime drama staring Jennifer Lopez was canceled after three seasons and ended this Fall.
The Mayor
This show starring Lea Michele and Brandon Micheal Hall only aired nine episodes on ABC and then another four on Hulu and was not picked up for a second season.
Alex, Inc.
This show that was based on the podcast StartUp and follows a radio journalist who is trying to start his own company. The show only lasted one season and ended in May.
The Crossing
The Crossing was a science-fiction thriller that reminded some of the hit TV show Lost. However, unlike Lost, this show did not make it past its first season and ended this year.
Mozart in the Jungle
This Amazon original was considered to be an underrated hit. Despite this, the show was canceled after four seasons and ended last May.
Love
Netflix's quirky romantic comedy Love, wrapped up its third and final season this spring.
The Fosters
The family drama The Fosters finished its final season this summer, but a spinoff series is set to air next year.
Casual
Despite being nominated for a Golden Globe, Casual ended this year after four seasons.
Young and Hungry
Emily Osment starred in the comedy Young and Hungry, which wrapped up its last season this July. The network is planning to air a TV movie that would wrap up the series.
