When you find them, they're oftentimes so good, they're just begging to be shared. The unfortunate nature of the fashion industry is that small brands and minority-owned brands often go hand in hand due to the lack of exposure for them. But underexposure (which we're here to change) is not to be confused with lesser quality — in fact, there's a long list of Latinx-owned fashion brands you shouldn't go another day without knowing.
While it may be Latinx Heritage Month, brands helmed by brown creatives deserve a spot in your regular shopping rotation. Just like any other fashion brand you love, they've earned it with their trendy and simultaneously unique designs. Often consisting of pieces handmade in the designer's home country or including references from their culture, many of these brands are known for their intricate details such as weaving and embroidery. Past Midnight
Past Midnight The Label masters the art of basics with a twist. A former immigration lawyer turned designer, Gabriela Prendes launched Thrifts + Threads amid the COVID-19 pandemic, prioritizing slow fashion practices and giving back to her home country, Mexico, by creating jobs for women in impoverished communities.
