Even while repping a favorite label, Kate Middleton stunned us all in a blue Alexander McQueen gown at a state dinner on Tuesday evening at Buckingham Palace. Though her style has often been pigeonholed and pegged as more predictable, the duchess of Cambridge's appearance in this gown was both a nod to tradition and a refreshing change of pace. Her tiara, the Lover's Knot, was a favorite of Princess Diana's and matches the pearl drop earrings she chose for the occasion, which were also once Diana's.

Meanwhile, the dress is all new. The silhouette is a more body-conscious fit, complete with ruching and a trumpeted skirt. It's both regal and romantic, and a departure from the more classic dresses we've become accustomed to seeing her in — and it's giving us major Cinderella vibes. Read on to see the look that will surely make your jaw drop.
