Therabody, the makers of Theragun massage guns, sent me the new RecoveryAir JetBoots to test out. These super-long boots zip up the entire length of your legs. They have a wireless pump integrated into the boots and fill up with air to offer pneumatic compression therapy. Basically that's a fancy term for squeezing your legs in a delicious, amazingly relaxing way to help with muscle recovery.

What Are the Benefits of Pneumatic Compression Therapy?

According to the website, compression therapy is used for recovery and to recharge your muscles. Some of the benefits the site mentions include:

Lately my workouts have consisted of long-distance rowing, hiking, strength training, and yoga, and my legs get so sore. Although I've used (and loved!) Theragun massage guns, I've never used anything like these. Keep reading to find out how it feels to use these RecoveryAir JetBoots (hint: it's like a massage!); if they helped with tight, sore muscles; and how much they cost.

Do the RecoveryAir JetBoots Come in Different Sizes?

The Therabody RecoveryAir JetBoots come in three different sizes. I got the medium which meant my husband and I could use them. Even though I'm only 5'2", the medium was slightly big, but I could still zip them all the way up.

Small: 5' to 5'5" height, up to 27.6" max width
Medium: 5'6" to 6' height, up to 31.5" max width
Large: 6' to 6'6" height, up to 31.9" max width

What Do the RecoveryAir JetBoots Look Like?

You can see that my feet and legs fit inside the JetBoots, and there is a durable, full-length zipper than runs from the top of each foot to the top of each thigh. The fabric is smooth, thick, and easy to wipe clean, and each boot is complete with fully wireless integrated internal pumps. They kind of feel like slipping on comfy snow pants.

How Do You Use the RecoveryAir JetBoots?

There is one of these panels on the top of each Therabody RecoveryAir JetBoot. You can see the two little boot icons on the bottom right, which means that the JetBoots are paired together, so they inflate and deflate at exactly the same time. You can also use one JetBoot at a time if you prefer, or use them both, but choose different pressure or time options.

These RecoveryAir JetBoots are super easy to use — I was amazed! You press and hold the on button at the top of the circle, and the display lights up. Then select the amount of pressure you want (shown on the left; 25, 50, 75, or 100 mmHg), and the time (shown on the right; 20 minutes, 40 minutes, 60 minutes, or continuous). Press the play button on the bottom of the circle, sit back, and relax!

What Do the RecoveryAir JetBoots Feel Like?

These boots feel so good! The FastFlush Technology™ offers full inflation and deflation in 60 seconds, and the rhythm of the pressure building and then releasing is so calming.

I like how the pressure starts at my feet, travels up my shins and calves, to my quads and hamstrings, and ends with my entire legs being squeezed with equal pressure. When it reaches full pressure, it feels like an incredible hug, kind of like how your arm feels when you're getting your blood pressure taken.

I started with the 25, then moved up to the 50, and then chose the 75, (which felt intense!). I also tried the 100, but I could feel the pulse in my legs beating, and it felt a little too strong, so I ended up using 50 or 75 most times, depending on the workouts I did.

No matter what, after each session, I felt completely relaxed, like I'd just had a massage or taken a warm bath. My legs felt less tight, less sore, and rejuvenated.

How Long Does the Battery Last in the RecoveryAir JetBoots?

After fully charging both RecoveryAir JetBoots, the battery lasts for 240 minutes — that's four hours! That means you can charge them before taking them to the gym, on a day trip to ski or mountain bike, or if you're going taking a car trip. Or if you're with a group of people, you can all have a turn without having ton charge them. The display on the front of each boot indicates how much battery life you have left. If you do run out of juice, you can still use them while they're plugged in.

How Much Do Therabody RecoveryAir JetBoots Cost?

A pair of these Therabody RecoveryAir JetBoots costs $899. I know! The cost definitely seems pricey, but if you're already shelling out for sports massages, this could replace a few of those sessions, making it worth it for you. And for each pair of JetBoots sold (up to 300 units), the company is donating a RecoveryAir system to hospital break rooms across the globe.

Plus nothing beats the convenience, the comfort, and the flexibility of being able to use these JetBoots anytime, any place, for as long as you want. I like using them on the couch while watching TV, but I've also used them in bed, and they've helped me fall asleep so fast after using them! If you're an athlete or love to work out regularly, and recovery at home is important to you, give these Therabody RecoveryAir JetBoots a try.
