This Mexican Spiced Hot Chocolate Is So Good and Takes Less Than 10 Minutes to Make

On days you're craving a warm drink that's not coffee, hot chocolate is always the way to go. But while it's a cold-weather classic, sometimes the hot beverage just needs a little . . . upgrade. If you're nodding along and find yourself wanting something with an extra kick, then this Mexican spiced hot chocolate recipe is for you (and literally anyone else who likes delicious things).

The spiced drink takes no more than 10 minutes to make and can be completely personalized depending on your level of spice comfort. Prepare your Mexican spiced hot chocolate as you would if you were making traditional hot cocoa, then add your favorite spices like cayenne, chipotle powder, or paprika. Mexican Spiced Hot Chocolate

Adapted Recipe From Gimme Some Oven

INGREDIENTS

    • 4 cups milk of your choice
    • 1/4 cup sweetened cocoa powder (regular hot chocolate mix will work, too)
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • Pinch of nutmeg
    • Pinch of cayenne
    • Pinch of paprika
    • Any toppings of your choice

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. In a medium saucepan, add all ingredients. Heat over medium heat until simmering, stirring frequently.

    2. Remove from heat and serve immediately with toppings of your choice such as whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate syrup, or extra dashes of cinnamon and spices.

    Notes

    If you like your hot chocolate with more of a kick, add an extra pinch of each spice.
