This Mexican Street Food Staple Is So Easy to Make at Home
Even if it's gray and blustery outside, The Kitchy Kitchen's spicy fruit salad will bring the summery vibes. Inspired by the chili-salt-tossed fruit that's a ubiquitous street food treat in Mexico as well as Los Angeles beaches, it's a recipe you can easily enjoy at home.
If you've driven around LA, you've seen those rainbow beach umbrellas perched on neighborhood corners. It looks like a fruit stand, but if you go behind the cart, it's much more. Lime, salt, chili, all combined with the fresh fruit of your choice in a plastic bag. On a hot day, there is nothing better. I've careened across a few rows of traffic to get to one in a particular weak moment. Cocos frescos (which technically means fresh coconuts, but it's more of an umbrella term here) are classic Mexican street food at its finest. Simple, fresh, and exactly what you crave in that moment. This is also insanely easy to make. I feel like a bit of a fraud for even posting it as a "recipe" because . . . you know, it's lime, chili, and salt on fruit. But considering it's one of my favorite snacks, I figured it was worth sharing. Enjoy!
