In an Interview, Trump Describes the Chocolate Cake He Ate While the US Bombed Syria

When the US launched an attack on Syria on April 6, President Donald Trump was at dinner eating chocolate cake. That's what Trump revealed in an interview, as well as accidentally saying we launched missiles to Iraq, not Syria.
"And we had the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you've ever seen and President Xi was enjoying it."
The exclusive interview, held between President Trump and Fox Business reporter Maria Bartiromo, touched upon Trump's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The meeting between the two presidents, which took place at the Mar-a-Lago resort, was also the time when Trump launched 59 missiles to a Syrian base. Bartiromo asked Trump how he planned the attack and what it meant. Trump indulged and began to describe the dessert.
" . . . I was sitting at the table. We had finished dinner. We're now having dessert. And we had the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake that you've ever seen and President Xi was enjoying it. And I was given the message from the generals that the ships are locked and loaded, what do you do? And we made a determination to do it, so the missiles were on the way. And I said, Mr. President, let me explain something to you. This was during dessert. We've just fired 59 missiles, all of which hit, by the way, unbelievable, from, you know, hundreds of miles away, all of which hit, amazing."
Trump continued to describe the attack and how he told President Jinping about it. " . . . So what happens is I said we've just launched 59 missiles heading to Iraq and I wanted you to know this. And he was eating his cake. And he was silent." Bartiromo quickly corrected him and said, "to Syria?" Trump responded with, "Yes. Heading toward Syria." You can watch the entire moment ahead.
Yup, the country's commander-in-chief talked about the cake he was eating as he gave the go ahead to launch an attack against Syria. Trump remembered more about the cake than he did of the country he was attacking. The interview didn't sit well with the internet at all.

Trump's Syria gaffe is one of many this administration has produced this week. On April 11, Eric Trump suggested in an interview that Ivanka Trump might've influenced the president to launch the attack. That same day, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer also said that Hitler wasn't "as bad" as Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is. "He was not using the gas on his own people the same way that Assad is doing," said Spicer. Though Spicer has since apologized for those remarks, it's clear that no one in the administration has any idea how to talk about Syria.
