Why Does Every Apple Watch Ad Show This Time?

If you've been following the Apple Watch announcements — maybe you're scoping one out for yourself or are simply horrified by the gadget's price tag — you might have noticed that every image displays the same time. Be it analog or digital, every rendering of the Apple Watch shows 10:09 on the clock . . . and it's no coincidence. Apple has used significant clock readings in past advertisements, including 9:41 in all its iPhone images.

Watchmakers have historically used 10:10 in advertisements because it appears symmetrical and won't cover up the brand logo, according to Business Insider. So why is Apple going against the flow, especially by a single minute? Because they're always ahead of the times!

"It all boils down to Apple using a cheeky pun to symbolically stake its claim to the smartwatch market, all while tipping its hat to an age-old watchmakers tradition," writes Business Insider. Other experts think the time reading is more about symmetry and attention to detail, but the pun-fueled theory is our favorite.

What do you think of this intentional marketing choice? Is it timely, or just plain cheesy?
