10 Celebrity Apologies That Made You Say "WTF?" in 2015

Stars are no strangers to receiving backlash from fans for every action (or tweet) they share on social media. This year, however, celebrities were quickly called out by their followers for almost every little opinion, or behavior, on topics from Cecil the lion to Ahmed Mohamed (the boy who was arrested for bringing a homemade clock to class). Fans demanded explanations and apologies, and more often than not, the stars offered up an immediate, regretful statement. Although most incidents warranted a larger discussion — like Giuliana Rancic's comment about Zendaya's hair — there were some situations that totally stumped us. This was the year celebrities apologized for, well, almost everything.

Katie Holmes

In October, Katie Holmes gave a cryptic apology for events that happened at her and Tom Cruise's wedding in 2006. Leah Remini revealed in a 20/20 special that several people had written notes about her "bad behavior" at the wedding and sent the reports to the Church of Scientology, which she was part of at the time.

The actress claimed Katie was one of the members who had reported her behavior and read a document that reportedly contained what Katie wrote about her. It said, "I was dismayed at the behavior of Leah Remini during the events leading up to our wedding and our wedding. The behavior of a guest, a friend, that was very upsetting."

Despite rumors that Katie would also make an appearance on Leah's 20/20 episode, Katie did not and only offered this statement: "I regret having upset Leah in the past and wish her only the best in the future."

Zayn Malik was enagaged to musician Perrie Edwards when online photos surfaced of him holding hands with another girl while in Thailand. The former One Direction star took to Twitter to clarify the situation, writing, "I'm 22 years old . . . I love a girl named Perrie Edwards. And there's a lot of jealous f*cks in this world I'm sorry for what it looks like x." The love didn't last long, though; Zayn called off his engagement to Perrie five months later.

Rebel Wilson

During a radio station interview, Rebel Wilson revealed that she declined to present an award with Kendall and Kylie Jenner at the VMAs. She said, "What they stand for is totally against what I stand for. They seem a bit superficial and their careers aren't really based on talent." She then added more fuel to the fire with, "I mean how Kim Kardashian got famous from the sex tape and I just went to acting school and worked really hard." A week later, the Pitch Perfect star seemed to regret her choice of words and (sort of) apologized to the Kardashians with a tweet wishing the family well.

Justin Bieber was so sorry this year, he even released a catchy single of the same name. The singer first apologized for his bad behavior via a Facebook video, then made multiple appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to show his remorse and even apologized again on stage for his actions during his Comedy Central Roast.

Adding to the long list of sorries, Justin also took down the infamous Instagram photo of his butt, stating, "I deleted the photo of my butt on Instagram not because I thought it was bad but someone close to me's daughter follows me and she was embarrassed that she saw my butt . . . It was completely pure hearted as a joke but didn't take in account there are littles following me!!! Love u guys."

If you remember Iggy Azalea's feud with rapper Azealia Banks, then you know Azealia does not hold back on social media. During an intense altercation with a man on a plane, the singer was caught on video shouting derogatory slurs at the passenger. After the incident, she went on Twitter to defend the use of her words and said, "I will make one apology. And it's to apologize to the feelings of the people who enjoy my music and hate seeing me in drama."

Taylor Swift

Celebrity Twitter feuds start and end as quickly as they begin, and this year Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj's tweet battle captured everyone's attention. In response to MTV's VMA nominations, Nicki said, "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year." Taylor replied with, "I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.."

The conversation then got a little more heated when Nicki said, "Huh? U must not be reading my tweets. Didn't say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this." It seems like the whole conversation was a misunderstanding on Taylor's part because the singer followed up with an apology two days after the exchange and told Nicki she "had missed the point . . . then misspoke." The rapper forgave Taylor, and to prove there was no bad blood between the two, Nicki brought her on stage to perform at the VMAs.

Ashley Benson found herself at the center of a Halloween costume controversy after she posted a photo of her in a lion onesie with the caption, "What do you guys think of this cecil the lion costume?" Her followers quickly became enraged and called the actress insensitive (Cecil was a famous lion that was killed by a hunter), which made Ashley tweak her post to "Help! Can't decide on my Halloween costume this year! What do you guys think of this lion costume?" The Pretty Little Liars star then wrote a separate, apologetic post on Instagram to let her fans know the image put up was "in poor taste" and that she would donate proceeds to the World Wildlife Fund.

In June, Ariana Grande was caught licking doughnuts in a display case, then saying, "I hate America," by a security camera. After the footage came out, Ariana posted a video on her YouTube page to clarify her actions and told fans that she's "proud to be an American." She claimed the comment was made toward America's food industry and unhealthy eating habits. The singer also shared regret for how she expressed herself, adding, "I should have known better in how I expressed myself; and with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better . . . That being said let me once again apologize if I have offended anyone with my poor choice of words."

Amy Schumer's candid sense of humor may not be for everyone. The comedian took a dig at Khloé Kardashian’s weight loss during her SNL monologue, which prompted the star to tweet out, "No need 2 tear down others just 2 make urself feel bigger. It actually makes u quite small. I'm on a healthy journey. I don't care 4the hate." Though Khloé did not call out Amy specifically, it was clear who the message was directed toward. Amy responded with a photo of her cute 18-month-old niece and a simple Twitter message that said, "Nothing but love for that family. I like idea of sending women the message to be happy in their own skin. #peace."

Ozzy Osbourne's bizarre apology for an incident that happened 33 years ago may be considered long overdue. In 1982, the songwriter relieved himself on a monument, the Alamo Cenotaph, in San Antonio and was reportedly banned from the city for life (though the ban only lasted 10 years). In November, Ozzy was set to revisit the Alamo Cenotaph for a History Channel special and issue an official public apology.
