"And Just Like That" to Return For Season 2

After much anticipation and an explosive debut, HBO Max has finally renewed "And Just Like That" for a second season. The news comes over a month after the revival series concluded its first season. "I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters — played by these powerful, amazing actors," showrunner Michael Patrick King said in a statement. "The fact is, we're all thrilled."

In December, King told Emmy magazine that he felt confident about the show's season two renewal. "As we were working, it always felt like the beginning," he said. "It didn't feel like a beginning, middle and an end. So I think it's possible to keep going — if we have enough good stories." HBO's chief content officer, Casey Bloys, had a similar stance when talking to Vulture about continuing the story. "To tell you the truth, it would be a conversation, because I have no idea," he said that same month. "They kind of came together to do this. They were all really busy and doing other things. So it is certainly a conversation we'll have — for sure. But we haven't decided anything or done anything."

In spite of the cast and crew's optimism for "And Just Like That," the spinoff had a rocky first season, to say the least, sparking outrage from viewers online nearly every week. It started rough with the lack of Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and the killing off of Mr. Big (Chris Noth). Then Noth found himself in a real-life scandal that definitely reflected poorly on the franchise he's so well known for. Not to mention longtime fans' dismay over the handling of Miranda's (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte's (Kristin Davis), and Stanford's (Willie Garson) storylines.

HBO Max hasn't confirmed season two details regarding the cast, plot, or premiere date yet, but it may be safe to assume that Sarah Jessica Parker, Davis, and Nixon will all return. Since season one wrapped with an open-ended conclusion, it's possible newcomers Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, and Sara Ramirez will also be back for season two.
