Game of Thrones: Everything the Cast Has Said About Season 6

Take a deep breath, because we're about to head into another round of Game of Thrones madness. Season six kicks off on Sunday, and while the cast has remained predictably tight-lipped about Jon Snow's fate, they have said some interesting things about what's to come. There's no need to spend hours scavenging for the most revealing interviews, either, because we did it for you! Here are all the eyebrow-raising details about season six — straight from the cast.

Sophie Turner
HBO

Sophie Turner

According to Turner, it's going to be a great season for her character: "I mean this season is a really, really big one for Sansa," she told Entertainment Weekly "It’s probably her best season yet. It's her really coming into her own. She, this season, really commands the respect that she deserves and she grabs hold of it and she runs with it and it's really good. . . It was amazing because the past five seasons, it feels like it's been building up and up to that. You can only suffer so much before she finally gets her, the respect that she deserves."

She continued to tease the season, saying, "I mean, this season there's like so many shocks, it's massive. It's the biggest season yet. And just like in terms of character development, so many people's storylines, I'm so excited for. I'm so excited to see Alfie's one this season. It's going to be good."

Natalie Dormer
HBO

"Grandma ain't around to look after her anymore," Natalie Dormer said, talking about her character at the show's Comic-Con panel last year. "All of the characters are in a situation where they don't know how to play their next move. I think she's in trouble."

Michiel Huisman
HBO

Michiel Huisman

"Daario, in the beginning of this new season, is on the hunt together with Jorah to try to find and track down [Daenerys], and it's funny because it can easily be a bumpy road between Jorah and Daario, and now we're on the road for God knows how long," he told us while promoting his film The Invitation. When we asked him if there were any particularly exciting scenes coming up, he said, "Somehow the writers manage for every character to have one or two of those moments a season. I definitely have a couple of those. I can't wait for you guys to see them."

Lena Headey
HBO

Lena Headey

One of the strangest quotes about the new season came courtesy of Lena Headey. The actress teased Cersei and Jaime's storyline to Entertainment Weekly: "It's probably her most interesting season. She really has nothing to lose and she has everything to gain from a horrible position she finds herself in . . . Her relationship with Jaime is at an all-time weird level. It's juicy, and it's so f*cking dark." Yes!

Kit Harington
HBO

Kit Harington

Harington is in an especially awkward position, since his character is supposedly dead. He hasn't spoken much about how Jon Snow is involved on the new season, but he did confirm that Jon is dead while on The Jonathan Ross Show.

Isaac Hempstead Wright
HBO

Isaac Hempstead Wright

Bran is completely absent from season five of Game of Thrones, but he's making his return! Wright spoke with the Irish Examiner last year, hinting at his character's arc: "I can't say a lot but I am back this season, and it's going to get particularly interesting with Bran. He has some interesting visions."

Iwan Rheon
HBO

Iwan Rheon

I think we can all agree that Ramsay is Game of Thrones's most despicable character right now, but according to Rheon, who spoke with EW, we'll be seeing a different side to him. "This season fills him out a bit. We pick up in the aftermath of last season when Sansa and Theon have escaped."

When asked how Ramsay feels about Sansa and Theon leaving, Rheon admitted that things might get a little rocky. "He's sheepish. His father is obviously not pleased. Without Sansa, he doesn't have a much power as having a Stark and an heir. Without her, he is not what he was. He's still sort of a bastard, really, even though he's been legitimized by another bastard — as Sansa rightly pointed out. And we start by finding out how Ramsay really felt about Myranda."

Emilia Clarke
HBO

Emilia Clarke

Clarke acknowledged that while the cast says every season is the biggest ever, this season really is. "Legitimately, this season almost killed us," she said, talking to E! News. "It is epic. It's huge, it's insane, it's silly."

Liam Cunningham
HBO

Liam Cunningham

"This season, there wasn't an episode in the bunch where I went, 'Where is this going?'" Cunningham told THR. "It was full of intrigue, full of newness, and filled with wonderful characters. We have quite a few new people on board this year, and as usual, there's carnage with characters going down. There are parts of it that are business as usual, and I mean that in the very best sense. Then there are parts that are stylistically very new."

As for Davos, Cunningham also divulged that he'll be "directionless," for once. "Where we find him [in season six] is directionless, and in a sense, that's incredibly interesting. What can he do? What can he achieve with so little, with so much taken from him? Everything's up for grabs. It's a fresh start — well, it's either a finish, or a fresh start."

Cunningham also revealed a clip from the show, in which Jon Snow is very dead.

Maisie Williams
HBO

Maisie Williams

Arya has quite the challenge ahead of her, now that she has lost her sight. "Arya is being more physical again, but she's blind," Williams told EW. "So her training has progressed even more but it's on a more physical level and a more technical level because she's lost her eyes . . . This year is so great because we've whittled it down. You can see the final storylines forming. We lost a lot of people last year and that makes it really exciting. There are fewer people on Arya's list. But there's also fewer people to fight for the throne."

Carice Van Houten
HBO

Carice Van Houten

Now that Stannis is out of the picture (thanks, Brienne), Melisandre's faith has been shaken. Van Houten has steered clear of revealing any spoilers, but while speaking at Comic-Con last year, she did comment that her character is a bit lost.

Gwendoline Christie
HBO

Gwendoline Christie

It's time for Brienne to shine! "I got the scripts for season 6 and I thought the story was so fantastic," Christie told EW, discussing her character. "It's really exciting to see Brienne burst forth again."

She also teased that Brienne will be interacting with some characters she hasn't previously met yet. "So many characters for so long had their isolated storylines and as a fan of this show as well, I've been wanting and dreaming — 'I wonder what it would be like to see this person interact with this other person?' And that's what starts to unfold."

Bryan Cogman
HBO

Bryan Cogman

Love Game of Thrones's intense battle sequences? Things are about to get crazier than ever. "It's definitely the biggest [action sequence yet]," writer-producer Bryan Cogman told EW of a major upcoming battle. "We've always wanted to get to a place — story-wise and budget-wise and time-wise and resource-wise — where we would be able to do a proper battle, with one army on one side, one army on another side."

Michael Lombardo
HBO

Michael Lombardo

This season is all about the ladies, according to HBO's president of programming. "The women are rocking this season," he told EW. "Daenerys always does, but also Brienne, Arya, Sansa, Cersei, Margaery, and other characters too, like Yara. They power this season. It's organic to the storytelling, yet a radical shift. It's the women that are the hope that we're watching as the chess pieces move this season, and it's very exciting."

Ian McShane
HBO

Ian McShane

McShane spilled the beans on his new character while talking to The BBC: "My character really is an ex-warrior who's become a peacenik. I have this group of peacefult, sort of like a cult, a peaceful tribe . . . I bring back a much-loved character everybody thinks is dead." Might he be playing the Elder Brother?

David Benioff
HBO

David Benioff

Not only has Benioff promised this season will be the best one yet, but the showrunner claimed season six will not spoil the books for fans: "So much of what we're doing diverges from the books at this point," he told EW. "And while there are certain key elements that will be the same, we're not going to talk so much about that — and I don't think George is either. People are going to be very surprised when they read the books after the show. They're quite divergent in so many respects for the remainder of the show."
