11 Grey's Anatomy Sex Scenes That Nearly Put You on Life Support

In episode five of season one, Cristina (Sandra Oh) walks into the on-call room to find Burke (Isaiah Washington) half-naked. "Thanks for the coffee," she tells him, right before their pent-up emotions take over and they have some passionate sex.

Alex (Justin Chambers) and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) had somewhat of a fairy-tale romance for a bit, but before they fell truly in love, they were just hookup buddies. In season two, episode 16, a bomb scare in the hospital has everyone on edge, which prompts Izzie to confront Karev in the on-call room with this classic pickup line: "I haven't had sex in eight months and 12 days. I'm horny, I'm half-naked, and I'm saying yes. Do you want to stand there and talk metaphors or do you want to literally take off your pants?" Spoiler alert: he takes off his pants.

This might be one of the most (if not the most) emotionally charged hookup scenes in Grey's history. During the prom the hospital puts on for Chief Webber's niece in season two's 27th episode, "Losing My Religion," Meredith and Derek steal glances at each other over their dates' (Finn and Addison) shoulders all night. Finally, they sneak away to have a heated exchange, which ends in them getting it on.

In season three, episode 21, Addison finds herself more and more attracted to Karev, despite her claims to Callie that she'd never sleep with "the help." Later on, she angrily confronts Karev about getting too close to a patient, which results in the two of them getting hot and heavy in a nearby on-call room (is Seattle Grace entirely composed of on-call rooms, or . . . ?).

Meredith and Derek decide they're going to break up in the heartbreaking first episode of season four, but just like Meredith's all-knowing voice-over predicts ("Sometimes, the more things change, the more they stay the same"), she can't resist Derek. They end up having hot breakup sex then and there, while repeating the words "breakup sex" over and over again (do you, MerDer).

In season four, episode 16, Callie (Sara Ramirez) attempts to squash her feelings for Erica by having a marathon boning session with Mark (Eric Dane). As always, the fun chemistry between these two is off the charts.

Lexie (Chyler Leigh) refuses to take no for an answer when she shows up at Mark's place in season five, episode 10. Although he says he can't hook up with "Little Grey," she persistently asks him to "teach" her until they're both rolling around in bed together.

In season six, episode 11, Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) and Callie are caught in a compromising position when Lexie walks in on their morning shower. Not the worst way to start a work day, right?

Even though Lexie is clearly still hung up on Mark, she and Avery (Jesse Williams) enjoy quite a few hookups throughout season seven. The shower scene where April (Sarah Drew) walks in on them definitely takes the cake, though.

In episode 21 in season eight, April — filled with adrenaline after starting a bar brawl — decides to let Avery swipe her v-card in her hotel room. It's a sexy start to one of Grey's Anatomy's longest and most complicated relationships.

In season 11's sixth episode, Meredith and Derek take their bathing routine to primetime with this epic shower makeout.
