"The Summer I Turned Pretty"'s Trailer Features the First "Back to December (Taylor's Version)" Snippet
Summer love has never been such a mess. Amazon Prime Video released the full trailer for "The Summer I Turned Pretty" on June 29, and it included a special treat for Taylor Swift fans — the first snippet of "Back to December (Taylor's Version)," which will appear on "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" this July. And it's the perfect song for Lola Tung's Belly, who's stuck between Christopher Briney's Conrad and Gavin Casalegno's Jeremiah, wondering where it all went wrong. The footage also features Sean Kaufman as Steven, Rain Spencer as Taylor, the unexpected return of David Iacono as Cam Cameron, and the introduction of Elsie Fisher as a new character, Skye.
The first teaser trailer, released on June 8, used Swift's song "August" to bring Belly's love triangle to life. Prime Video previously shared first-look photos for the new season on May 31, and on April 21 the streamer released the first poster.
Season two of the hit romance series wrapped filming back in November 2022. At the time, the show's official Instagram and Twitter accounts shared celebratory posts, including a photo of some of the cast alongside the caption, "and that's a wrap on season 2 🎬."
The first "The Summer I Turned Pretty" book, which kicks off the popular Summer YA series, centers on Belly as her traditional family summer vacations whisk her off to the quaint Cousins Beach, where she comes of age and experiences all the teenage rites of passage. The teen romance drama earned a season two renewal just before season one's June 2022 arrival, causing audiences to wonder if the next batch of "The Summer I Turned Pretty" episodes would be here in time for the balmy days of 2023.
Keep reading to find everything we know about "The Summer I Turned Pretty"'s second season so far — including what the plot of the sophomore chapter of Belly's TV life might entail.

"The Summer I Turned Pretty" Season 2 Plot
While "The Summer I Turned Pretty" season one introduced many fresh elements to the story that might have surprised OG book-lovers (like romance plotlines for characters who only had a minor presence in the book series), it largely stays true to Han's book. For that reason, fans can look to the second book in the series, "It's Not Summer Without You," for an idea of what's to come in the tumultuous story of Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah's beachside love triangle.
Season one ends with Belly and Conrad sharing a long-awaited kiss. The only problem? Jeremiah, who had begun pursuing a romantic relationship with Belly, doesn't know this. Season two will likely pick up with Belly having to choose between her two lifelong friends. Warning: spoilers ahead!
Though the season one finale offered fans some hope for Susannah (Rachel Blanchard), Conrad and Jeremiah's mother, after she begrudgingly agrees to receive chemotherapy treatment for her cancer, the trailers make clear that by the start of season two, Susannah has died. Grieving the loss of his mother, Conrad is more closed off than ever, and as a result, his budding relationship with Belly crumbles.
However, an impromptu summer road trip with Jeremiah takes shape when Belly learns that Conrad has suddenly disappeared. As the trio heads back to the beach house one last time, they come to terms with their inner turmoil and gain some clarity in the process. We'll have to wait and see how closely the show follows the book.
"The Summer I Turned Pretty" Season 2 Cast
The central cast are returning for season two. Tung is back as Isabel "Belly" Conklin with Briney as Conrad Fisher, Casalegno as Jeremiah Fisher, Kaufman as Steven Conklin, and Spencer as Taylor. Jackie Chung plays Laurel, Belly and Steven's mom.
In terms of new cast members, "The Closer" star Kyra Sedgwick and "Eighth Grade"'s Elsie Fisher have also signed on.
Although Cam Cameron (Iacono) doesn't appear in the second and third book in the series, the character is returning for season two. What his role will be in the drama is anyone's guess. And even if the series does follow the second book's plot closely by having Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) die off screen, we could definitely still see the Fisher matriarch in season two via flashbacks. A season one character who is confirmed to not be returning is Minnie Mills's Shayla, Steven's love interest. Mills said Shayla was not part of season two in an Instagram post.
