Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey Embark on a Dangerous Journey in "The Last of Us" Trailer
The wait for HBO's highly anticipated "The Last of Us" series is almost over. On Dec. 3, HBO Max released the terrifying full-length trailer for the new apocalyptic adventure. In it stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, both "Game of Thrones" alums (though their characters, Oberyn Martell and Lyanna Mormont, never interacted), embark on a dangerous journey across an America ravaged by monsters.
"The Last of Us" is based on the bestselling, award-winning video-game series of the same name. In the series, Pascal's Joel is tasked with smuggling Ramsey's Ellie through a postapocalyptic, zombie-infected United States. Throughout the trailer, the unlikely duo face many dangers — and not just zombies-like infected humans.
In an interview with GQ in April, Pascal revealed that, though he loves the series, he wasn't very good at playing the video game. "It's so sad, I haven't any skill," the actor said. "I tried, you know. And then it was only a matter of minutes before I had to hand it over to my nephew. It really takes a specific kind of skill, and I don't have it."
Even though Pascal admires the game, he knew he didn't want to perfectly imitate it, either. "I found Joel so impressive — I found the whole of it such a visually impressive experience," he said. "And then I got worried that I would want to imitate too much, which I think could be right in some circumstances, and then a mistake in others. So I just wanted to create a healthy distance, and for that to be more in the hands of [show co-writer] Craig Mazin and [game writer and show co-writer] Neil Druckmann."
"The Last of Us" was filmed in Calgary, Alberta, in 2021, and HBO is planning to release it in early 2023. Keep reading ahead for everything we know about "The Last of Us," including the trailer and cast.

"The Last of Us" Plot
"The Last of Us," based on the 2013 game of the same name, is a postapocalyptic drama set in a world where humans and other creatures have been infected by a fungus that turns them into cannibals. Joel (Pascal) is a smuggler who's hired to get Ellie (Ramsey) across the United States. If the show has a second season, it will probably adapt the sequel game, "The Last of Us Part II."

The rest of the cast includes Storm Reid, Nick Offerman, Merle Dandridge, Jeffrey Pierce, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlett, Lamar Johnson, Keivonn Woodard, Graham Greene, Elaine Miles, and Rutina Wesley. Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson voiced Joel and Ellie in the game and will appear in the show in different roles.
