From Hating Running to the NYC Marathon, Here's How Karlie Kloss Made It to 26.2 Miles

Update: Karlie Kloss is officially a finisher of the New York City Marathon, completing the race in 4:41:49. "I did it! It's [the marathon] single handley the hardest thing I've ever done," she said in her Instagram story.

Karlie Kloss will be lacing up her Adidas to participate in the New York City Marathon on Sunday, Nov. 5. The iconic race takes runners through the five boroughs of the city, ending at the finish line in historic Central Park. This will be the supermodel's first marathon, though she did manage to squeeze in a half-marathon during Paris Fashion Week three years ago.

Karlie told Runner's World that she grew up hating running, but it's now a mainstay in her adult life. "Running a marathon is something I never dreamed I would do," she said. "As the day gets closer, I'm a bit nervous, but I like to do things that scare me."

Here's a look at Karlie's training that got her to this moment and her photo from the finish line!

Karlie began training for the NYC Marathon on May 1 — giving her a full six months to get her body and mind primed for the 26.2-mile course.

Running wasn't the only thing Karlie did to prep — she also put in grueling strength training sessions at Dogpound. A favorite NYC gym among the supermodel set, Dogpound is known for its challenging HIIT and boxing workouts.

Whatever the weather, marathon training must go on! Karlie didn't let a little rain stop her from logging her miles. (We're loving her stylish Adidas UltraBoost x Parley shoes.)

A part of any good training plan are rest and recovery days. While in Shanghai, Karlie turned things upside down with a little yoga.

A solid playlist is definitely an important way to stay motivated during training runs. Karlie stayed energized with the help of fellow St. Louis native Nelly.

Showing strength in numbers, she's not going at it alone. Karlie and her crew are running to raise awareness for her charity Kode With Klossy. Karlie established the organization in 2014 with a mission to "empower girls to learn to code and become leaders in tech."

Even on her birthday, Karlie hit the trail for a run — this time in beautiful Colorado.

Karlie took a break from solo training runs and got into the race mindset by participating in a 5K just a few months prior to the big day.

A snap from one of Karlie's last training runs. She'll be one of more than 50,000 runners participating in the 2017 NYC Marathon.

She was all smiles at the NYC Marathon expo, where she went to pick up her race bib. We'll be cheering for Karlie and all of the runners participating in this year's race!
