Apple's Just-Dropped iOS 15 Includes a New Cochlear Implant Option For Your Memoji

While Apple has taken steps to diversify its Emojis and Memojis by adding a variety of skin tones, orientations, and body types, this iOS 15 update feels like a long time coming.

To better represent those with hearing loss, Apple has introduced a cochlear implant option for your Memoji. This is one of three new accessibility options for customizing your Memoji, which also include oxygen tubes and a soft helmet.

Tucked away in your Memojis settings — found in your messages — this hearing device is a small step toward better representation of a whole community of people previously underrepresented in this tech space. Share it through Messages and FaceTime if you feel it best represents you in Memoji form! Here's how you can get it:

How to Get the Cochlear Implant Memoji

  1. Open Messages and create a new message
  2. Tap the Memoji icon (a face with hearts) on the bottom
  3. Hit the three dots on the side to edit
  4. Slide to the Ears tab
  5. Scroll down to Audio and select the cochlear implant
  6. Hit Done to save your Memoji
