Victoria's Secret Model Slams Public Breastfeeding Critics' Double Standards

Victoria's Secret Angel and new mother Candice Swanepoel often appears publicly in topless ads, so she's having a hard time understanding why she's been made to feel the need to cover up when nursing her son, Anacã. In a post to her Instagram account, the 28-year-old model poses the obvious question her situation calls up: why are topless editorials OK, but public breastfeeding isn't?

"Many women today are shamed for breastfeeding in public, or even kicked out of public places for feeding their children," she wrote. "I have been made to feel the need to cover up and somewhat shy to feed my baby in public places, but strangely feel nothing for the topless editorials I've done in the name of art."

Swanepoel continues her post, noting how desensitized society has become to things like breasts and violence in the media, but that many still have such a huge issue with women who nurse in public. "Breastfeeding is not sexual, it's natural. Those who feel it is wrong to feed your child in public need to get educated on the benefits breastfeeding has on mother and child, and in turn, on society as a whole."
