Joe Biden Had a Hot Mic Moment and Revealed His Post-White House Plans

Update: During Tuesday's ceremony to swear in the new and re-elected senators, Joe Biden apparently forgot his mic was on when he revealed specifics about what he will do after office to an unidentified woman. On the C-SPAN clip, which was surfaced by Quartz, Biden discusses his plans to continue advocating for cancer research while also working on foreign policy out of the University of Pennsylvania.

After Biden's son Beau Biden died of cancer in 2015 at 46, Biden has championed research to end the disease. In the clip, Biden can also be heard explaining a yet to be officially announced organization called The Biden Trust, which is an extension of his "cancer moonshot" work as vice president. "It's not so much about raising money or philanthropy, though there will be some of that," Biden says, "but it's more about keeping these guys cooperating and changing the culture."

Biden also clarified that his decision not to associate with a single medical center was deliberate, and he will only be focusing on foreign policy at Penn. It's unclear whether Biden will move to Pennsylvania, contrary to the LA Times report that says he'll remain in DC, but he did commute from Delaware during his time as a senator.

Original Story: As his move-out date edges closer, Joe Biden gave the Los Angeles Times a clue about what he will do after Jan. 20, when his time as vice president is up. Like the current first family, the Bidens do not plan on leaving Washington DC.

According to the report, Biden and his wife Jill are not going anywhere, "which he means literally and figuratively." Jill will continue to teach at the Northern Virginia Community College in Alexandria, VA, while Joe has not publicly declared his plans.

The Biden and Obamas' decision to remain in DC is unprecedented and gives the outgoing vice president a unique opportunity to stay involved in politics. Though Biden's resolve is not primarily motivated by a desire to stay in the political sphere, the LA Times' report suggests it is an added perk. Biden recently joked about running for president in 2020 and he isn't totally ruling a bid out.

There's no word on where the Bidens plan to move, but given the vice president's close friendship with Obama, we venture to guess it might be near the Obamas' new home or office.
