Hollywood churns out so many superhero blockbusters that sometimes it's hard to believe there are actors who haven't donned a pair of tights or a cape. With Marvel releasing more movies than ever and comic-book casting coming all the time (have you seen the gigantic Suicide Squad cast?), we've put together a guide of the stars who will be taking on the role of a classic comic-book character. The latest? A new Spider-Man!
One of Hollywood's most prolific stars, Tatum will finally play a comic book hero as well; he's taking on the role of X-Men universe character Gambit, aka Remy LeBeau. Though he is only rumored to appear in next year's X-Men: Apocalypse, a Gambit standalone movie is set to be released in October 2016.
Jordan is starring in this August's release of the rebooted Fantastic Four franchise, alongside a new cast that also includes Miles Teller and Kate Mara. He'll play the Human Torch, aka Johnny Storm, a role that was played in the 2005 movie by Chris Evans.
In December, it was announced that Cumberbatch would play Doctor Strange after months of rumors. The character will get his own film, set to be released in November 2016.
The Fast and Furious franchise star will add some much-needed estrogen to 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, before getting her own movie and appearing in the two Justice League films directed by Zack Snyder.
The man known as The Rock will portray DC Comics supervillain Black Adam in Shazam!, which isn't set to come out until 2019.
Marvel's tiniest superhero will be played by funny guy Paul Rudd in Ant-Man, which will be released on July 17. Watch him in the trailer here.
At Marvel's Phase 3 event back in October of 2014, Chadwick Boseman was announced as Black Panther, a welcome step forward for the studio's diversity. 42 star Boseman will get his own movie, to be released in November 2017.
Zack Snyder recently gave us our first look at Jason Momoa as Aquaman, though we still don't know whether he will appear in the upcoming Batman v Superman movie.
The Game of Thrones star is just one of several new actors playing younger versions of X-Men characters in next year's X-Men: Apocalypse, which also features previous stars in its huge cast.
The breakout star from The Perks of Being a Wallflower and We Need to Talk About Kevin will get his own superhero alter ego as The Flash. Miller is rumored to play the character in next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the Justice League movies before his stand-alone film is released in 2018.
Affleck has of course played a superhero before, in 2003's Daredevil, but he's set to portray an arguably huger pop culture figure: Batman. He'll first appear as the character in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then he's expected to also appear in the Justice League movies.
Holland, 19, scored the part of Spider-Man in Marvel and Sony's upcoming franchise reboot. He'll be making his debut in Captain America: Civil War before his standalone movie is released in 2017. This is huge because Spider-Man hasn't starred in any Marvel movies before, so worlds will collide!
