Instagram is one of the few social media sites that lets anyone feel as creative and original as possible — even through the filters. Thanks to this incredible amount of imagination, Instagram just finished an amazing contest that asked people to put their own spin on an iconic photograph.
The competition, named #recreatedclassic, showcased hundreds of the entries at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Overall, three winners were chosen for their new renditions of an original photo, all of which you can see here. We've rounded up several other photos submitted to the contest, each accompanied by the original caption from the user.
If you can't get enough, explore the rest of the entries and maybe even try your hand at your own #recreatedclassic.
"We spent our lunch break wisely today: my modern approach on Audrey Hepburn aka myself, enjoying a humble bowl of Mymuesli."
"It's a remake, but with a strong touch of Brazilianness . . .to be honest, this photo was taken instinctively. I always loved the photo from Steve Mc Curry, the one with the Afghan girl. Those eyes, the impact they cause always intrigued me. Perhaps, it has been etched in my retina and inadvertently, I redid this photo that I admires so much. It was made in a vacation trip with two friends. Hope you enjoyed!"
"A snap I took. Reproducing the famous Psycho shower scene from Hitchcock's masterpiece movie."
"Still in love with our wedding save the date photo shoot. Tipping our hats to Festival de Cannes 2013 key poster art featuring the iconic Hollywood Couple, Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman."
