Lela Rose's "Croissant Bun" Is the Chicest Style For Messy Second-Day Hair

Second- (or third- or fourth- . . .) day hair can be difficult to style, and while topknots and ponytails are go-to remedies for those kinds of mornings, they start to feel boring pretty quickly. Luckily, New York Fashion Week just served up a hairstyle that actually requires messy hair for it to work, making it the easiest, chicest style to combat hair that's on the fritz.

Enter: the croissant bun. This clever creation was designed by lead hairstylist James Pecis for Paul Mitchell Systems at the Lela Rose Spring 2017 show. If you take a look at the style from the back, the hair takes the shape of a low, taut chignon that curves around the nape of the model's neck like a croissant (hence the name).

To re-create this look yourself, start by simply pulling your hair back into a low ponytail and securing it with an elastic. Add extra texture to the loose end by spritzing it with a texturizing spray (Pecis used the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Texturizing Sea Spray ($25) on the models) and back-combing it until the ponytail feels rough. Roll the ends of your hair up unto itself until it creates that croissant-shaped bun and secure it with bobby pins.

The hairstylists at this show added a scarf to the look, but if you're not a fan of hair accessories, feel free to skip that step — it will look chic as is. Concerned about the style staying put? Know that the more texture your hair has, the easier this look will hold, so be sure to back-comb thoroughly.
