Ready to make big career moves? Huda Kattan has advice to help you get the job done! We've partnered with Facebook Watch, where you can see exactly what it takes to succeed in beauty and business on her new reality show, Huda Boss.
In a perfect world, the climb to the top would be smooth and easy, but we all know things don't work like that. Breaking into the workforce — let alone deciding what part of it you even want to be in — is a rocky path paved with challenges, curveballs, and tough decisions at every turn. This rings even more true in 2018, when the daily news, your weekend plans, and even your entire life can flip upside down at the tap of a touchscreen button.
If anyone knows what its like to ride this wave, it's social media sensation, beauty entrepreneur, and newly minted reality show star Huda Kattan of Huda Beauty. Once your average (though well-known) makeup junkie and beauty blogger, she launched a collection of false eyelashes in 2013 that changed the game — and her entire career. Today, Huda Beauty (which has since ventured into foundations, highlighters, and more) is one of the fastest growing makeup brands, an impressive accomplishment in an undeniably oversaturated industry. But with strategy, an incredible work ethic, and millions of Instagram followers on her side, she's surviving and thriving. Now, she's sharing her secrets to success with POPSUGAR!

The advice she's is serving up is invaluable for anyone — no matter your age, experience, or chosen career path. And if you need a little help putting these tips into motion, see how she does it by tuning in to Huda Boss, streaming exclusively on Facebook Watch.
1. Stay Laser Focused on Your Goals
"We were SO persistent when we were trying to get our lashes stocked in Sephora, and we never gave up! I knew that there was a demand for false lashes and my sisters and I had a vision for what Huda Beauty could be, so we stayed determined and didn't lose sight of what we wanted to achieve. How well you're able to remain focused can ultimately define your success."
2. Don't Underestimate the Power of Your Online Presence
"I am always asked what I look for when hiring, and I think having a good social presence is one of the most underrated things! My team and I always check LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook before we invite candidates in for an interview. It helps me understand what kind of person they are. I love to surround myself with interesting, opinionated personalities — people who are secret geniuses — and I think you can tell a lot about a person based on their social media channels. Having a uniqueness to you will make you stand out for sure."
3. Surround Yourself With the Right People
"Pretty much every book on success will tell you this, and it is that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. I really believe this. Focus on the right things and surround yourself with the right people. Your surroundings are super important, so you want to spend your time with people who uplift and inspire you and are constantly challenging you. It's very easy to absorb the energy around you, so you need to make sure that energy is positive and upbeat. It will be a lot easier to build a business if you're feeling optimistic and positive!"
4. Focus on Growing 1 Social Media Platform at a Time
"If you are looking to grow your social following, my advice is to focus your energy on one social media platform. You can definitely use multiple channels, but I would focus on growing one and then moving on from there. Having a uniqueness to you will make you stand out, too. People will often try to model their social channels after other people, but it's super important to just be yourself and create your own identity."
5. Family Comes First — Always
"Family is EVERYTHING to me! At the end of the day, it's your family that will always be there to support you, so lean on them for advice and encouragement wherever you can. My family is super close and I rely on them for a lot. I know from experience how difficult it can be to work with family, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Although it is hard, it is also incredibly rewarding. I would not have been able to launch Huda Beauty without the support from my family."
6. Find Your Passion, Even If It Takes Some Experimenting
"If you haven't found a passion, experiment with different activities and see what you enjoy. It's trial and error, [but] eventually you'll find something that you love doing and are very good at. Oftentimes, we are blind to our strengths, so ask your family and friends what they think you are really skilled at. The strengths they see in you can really help determine what kind of career path you should take. When it comes to pursuing your dream, keep focused and only do it if you are 100 percent passionate about it. Stay true to yourself and do what you love and it will never be a job. I know it sounds cliche, but it's true. You will excel not because you're good at it, but because your love for it actually drives you."
7. Develop a Routine, but Don't Skimp Out on Me Time
"I'm a big believer in routines and planning and, because of that, I am super efficient and I get a lot done in a day. Although I spend most of my time in meetings, I always set time aside for personal planning in the evenings and mornings. Once I get to the office, I always keep 30 minutes aside for myself to plan for the day ahead and get into the right mindset. Once the day is done, I have an hour of me time as soon as I get home when I reflect on the day and do whatever I feel like doing to unwind. I can't stress the importance of me time enough!"
