Back in December, the highly anticipated Pantone Color of the Year was announced. And to my deep satisfaction, the color was not only terrific, but had a very catchy name: Living Coral.
I find coral — which can best be described as a pinkish orange tone — to be a highly underrated color when it comes to clothing. Pairing a chunky knit in this shade with an otherwise muted palette can be an easy way to give your outfit the pop it needs. I also am a huge proponent of the head-to-toe monochromatic bright color look (if you're brave). Take a look at some of my favorite fashionistas like Victoria Beckham and Blake Lively, both of whom have recently rocked monochromatic looks in similar tones of reds and pinks, for proof.
But today, we're talking makeup. And there's no one who has accomplished the Living Coral-ish makeup trend quite as memorably as Selena Gomez did when Kate Young styled her in that magnificent Oscar de la Renta orange minidress, with brilliantly matched eye shadow (as only makeup artist Hung Vanngo could do). And that was years before Living Coral was even in our vocabulary! Orange-y coral? On my eyes, you say? On my cheeks?
Call me crazy, but this year's Pantone Color is well equipped to be immersed in beauty products, from the easy to understand (nail polish) to the more inventive (eye shadow). Coral colors, depending on how bright or dark you get, can neutralize your skin's undertone because of their combo of yellow and pinks. So get bold, do some testing, and find your perfect Living Coral beauty product ahead.
