According to Mindy Kaling (via her book Why Not Me): everyone receives an airbrush tan before a big event — especially during award season! And if they're not getting bronzed, they're accentuating their natural skin tone with a variety of body highlighters, shimmer creams, and the like. Many might assume that one's au naturel glow is just the perk of being a celebrity, but we know there's a lot of work that goes into making these women shine. Literally.
Here's a roundup of the best skin finishes on the carpet, both faux and real.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Brie Larson
Brie wore a custom-made Calvin Klein gown, which she pulled off flawlessly (along with a subtle glow). And can we talk about her abs? Work it, girl!
Joanne Froggatt
Joanne, nominated for best supporting actress for her Downton Abbey role, relyed on Vita Liberata pHenomenal 2-3 Week Tan Mousse in Fair ($54) to help balance the gorgeous shade of her dress.
Jenna Dewan Tatum
Jenna walked hand in hand with her husband, Channing Tatum, and made a statement with her cleavage-baring gown. We're not positive if she received a pre-Globes tan or not, but her illuminated skin leads us to believe that she at least had some highlighter applied to her décolletage.
Olivia Wilde
We love Olivia's sequined halter jumpsuit and are equally obsessed with her sunset eye makeup. We're not 100 percent positive she had a tanning treatment, but she appears to have on a little bit of bronzer to accentuate her shoulders and cleavage.
Jennifer Lopez
We know this Latina beauty is naturally tan, but take a look at that leg highlight!

Jennifer might not look like she has a tan, but during the preshow and live telecast, her luminous tan popped against her red gown. She even joked about her tan on E!'s After Party, saying the spray tan "didn't stick." We beg to differ, Jen!

Kate is giving us Splash vibes with her crop top and fitted skirt at the Golden Globes, and we know a great tan was the perfect accessory for her beige ensemble. Makeup artist Mélanie Inglessis used Chantecaille Radiance Gel Bronzer ($56) to accentuate Kate's features and give her a sun-kissed glow.
Amy Adams
Amy Adams: hubba, hubba! Her siren-red gown didn't need much help, but a little bit of a glow goes a long way.
Lily James
Lily's makeup artist, Jenn Streicher, used St. Tropez Luxe Dry Oil ($50) to make the starlet appear as if she just returned from the French Riviera. "We wanted Lily to have a subtle bronze glow, as if she just returned from a fabulous trip," said Streicher. "Lily is naturally a fair-skinned English rose, so achieving the perfect golden shade played a major role in the overall look.”
Lily was airbrush tanned with St. Tropez's formula two days before the Globes. The morning of the show, Streicher applied the dry oil to her arms to enhance her tan and add a subtle shimmer.
Gina Rodriguez
Makeup artist Carissa Ferreri prepped Gina's skin with St. Tropez Tan Enhancing Moisturizer ($15) before applying the dry oil all over her body with a mitt. The oil enhanced her natural olive skin tone while playing up her clavicle, which was bare of any jewelry.
Louise Roe
Skin-finishing expert Katrina Brown applied a light dusting of St. Tropez Self-Tan Dark Bronzing Spray ($40) all over Louise's body, and then went over her natural contours to help accentuate and define those areas.
