The two most important items in my makeup bag: concealer and mascara. I can go out without foundation, blush (although I really do love it), bronzer, and just about every other product, but concealer and mascara make me feel put together in two easy steps.

I'm easy to please when it comes to mascaras — just give me long, full lashes and I'm happy — but concealers are a different story. With my combination skin, I need a formula that's suitable for both dry and oily skin. It needs to cover blemishes without cracking or drying out as the day goes by, but it also can't be comedogenic. The Dermablend Cover Care Full Coverage Concealer checks all of those boxes and then some, which is why I was excited to try the new launch immediately after it came out.

Dermablend Cover Care Full Coverage Concealer ($28) is a 24-hour hydrating concealer that's designed to cover blemishes, discoloration, and dark circles in one swipe. (It has also been tested on postinjection and surgery bruises and covers them like a dream.) It has a lightweight, creamy texture that blends seamlessly into skin with a matte finish. The formula is vegan, sensitive-skin and allergy tested, and waterproof — so much so that after I tested the shades on my hand and went to wash them off under warm water, they stayed put.

I used the shade 23N, a light color with neutral undertones, to cover a few blemishes around my chin, the area around my nose, and my undereyes. As soon as you dab it on with the doe-foot applicator, you can tell how pigmented and full coverage it is. However, when you blend it out with a wet makeup sponge, it melts into skin for a natural finish. I blended it on top of my sheer BB cream and loved how smooth my complexion looked, sans any heaviness.

After finishing the rest of my face for a natural work-from-home beauty look — blush, bronzer, clear brow gel, mascara — I went about my day. The ultimate test would be how it looked eight hours later at the end of work.

Taking a good look in the mirror hours later revealed that it passed the test. The coverage stayed put and didn't separate in my oil areas like my T-zone or settle into lines on the drier parts of my face like under my eyes. That's a win for me.
