Lo Bosworth's website, The Lo Down, covers everything from cooking to beauty, and we can say with authority that she's an expert when it comes to the latter. It's almost as if her entire being glows when she enters a room, so it's no surprise that Arm & Hammer chose the star to be its beauty spokesperson. Lo's beauty prowess seems almost innate, and her tips for incorporating baking soda into your beauty routine are life changing.

The Laguna Beach and The Hills alumna made the cross-country jump from LA to New York last year and we have to say, she's got the East Coast vibe down pat. She's managed to juggle adjusting to a different city, redecorating a new (and superdreamy) apartment, and spearheading a lifestyle brand with the poise we'd expect from the young businesswoman.

On top of all that, she always keeps her skin and hair on point — not a blemish in sight nor a tousled blond strand out of place. We sat down with Lo and she dished her secret skin care weapon, in addition to reminiscing about the MTV series that made us fall in love with her way back when.

POPSUGAR: How has your beauty approach changed since being on The Hills?

Lo Bosworth: When I was on The Hills, we did our own hair and makeup. A lot of people didn't realize that; they thought that we had a glam squad, a stylist, a wardrobe — but we didn't. We did everything ourselves, and so I was accustomed to wearing a lot of makeup when I lived in LA. I was camera ready a lot of the time.

PS: And how is your beauty syle different in New York than LA?

LB: When I moved to New York, there was definitely a transition period for me and I definitely evolved when I arrived. For me, I focus way more on moisturizers, sunscreens, and having really great skin. That's really important to me. Having a really fresh face is definitely at the top of my list, and amazing brows and amazing lashes.

PS: Do you fill your brows? They look so natural.

LB: Yeah, I use an Anastasia pencil brush ($23) and then I use a clear gel on top of them, and they just kind of stay for the day. When I first was doing my brows, they were a little too intense, but I've gotten them under control — it's a work in progress. I would definitely recommend for anybody who wants to do their brows to get them shaped and professionally done first, but then learn how to do it yourself.

PS: How do you incorporate baking soda into your beauty routine?

LB: You would not believe the exfoliating power in baking soda. If you mix it with water and just gently scrub any part of your body, you will be as soft as a baby's butt. And I love to clean my makeup brushes with it. I've found old makeup brushes in my drawer and I've brought them back to life by using baking soda. Another trick that a lot of people don't know about is that if you put a little bit of baking soda into your shampoo, it's an amazing clarifying treatment and I try to do that at least once a week. It gets all of the product out of your hair without stripping it of oil or color.

PS: You have great skin — what else do you do to keep it that way?

LB: I use a lot of Dermalogica products. And honestly, I used to be like a young party girl and my life has totally changed, so cutting alcohol and the occasional cigarette out of my life has been life changing for my skin. I also eat a really healthy diet, I exercise, and I steam, like, six days a week! I go into the steam room after every workout. I think that it's a really great way to keep everything in your body flowing.
