Chanel's '90s-Inspired Runway Beauty Is Straight Out of Saved by the Bell

Chanel's Spring 2017 Paris Fashion Week show was a time warp, proving that '80s and '90s beauty trends are making a comeback. Instead of the grunge looks we've been seeing at past shows, the pros at Chanel showcased brighter looks of these decades — specifically hot pink blush, vibrant charm hair ties, and neon baseball caps. The show had a digital influence, which feels futuristic (with robot heads!) and also included throwback fads.

When it came to makeup, we learned that contouring, bronzer, and strobing are taking a backseat. We predicted this would be the case when we discovered the "baby face" look last Spring. Makeup artist Tom Pecheux accented the models' cheekbones with pink blush that extended up to the eyelids. This old-school blush technique of using pigment to accent features is called draping. In addition to Chanel, Marc Jacobs Beauty is deeming it the next major style. It reminded us of Madonna's "Material Girl" days or Cher's girlie makeup from Clueless.

When it came to hair, stylist Sam McKnight gave the girls low side ponytails, secured with bright elastics adorned with Chanel charms. Electric-hued baseball caps worn sideways completed the '90s hair look. For those who grew up in the decade, it brought up nostalgia for watching Saved by the Bell, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Clarissa Explains It All on TV (where characters wore similar styles).
