Inverted Bob

The cut: Inverted Bob

Celebrity inspiration: Lucy Hale

Description: "Lucy's cut is a slightly inverted, blunt bob that's parted in the center. Point cutting at a zero-degree angle is best for this cut," said celebrity and editorial hairstylist Tym Wallace, who's worked with Taraji P. Henson, Brandy, and Zendaya.

Style it: Start by spraying Shu Uemura Straightforward Time Saving Blow Dry Oil ($39) or similar on to damp hair, then blow-dry with a round brush. Next, use a one-inch-barrel curling iron — such as DryBar's 3-Day Bender Digital Curling Iron ($145) — and wrap the hair in alternating patterns to achieve a tousled effect. Finish with some Oribe Texture Spray ($22), focusing on the ends.

Who it works for: Wallace said this style is great for oval, round, and almond-shaped faces. It's also works with thin, medium, or thick hair.

The cut: Urban Pixie

Celebrity Inspiration: Cara Delevingne

Description: "This chunky pixie is great for people with everything from thick to fine hair, and gives its host a very chic, liberated, urban sense of style," said celebrity stylist Arturo Swayze, whose clients include Julia Roberts, Kelly Rutherford, and Marissa Tomei. "It can look soft or hard or chunky or polished depending on how you style it. For this look, cut with a little scissor over the comb, a little slithering and a good amount of block-chunking. That's where you blunt-cut right into the finished cut, which creates very chunky texture without too much styling effort."

Style it: Swayze said that with this cut, you'll probably be able to go a few days without shampooing. When you do, he recommends R+Co's Cactus Texturizing Shampoo ($25) and no conditioner. "Then, all you need to style this little number is a dime size of Bumble and Bumble Sumotech ($29). Rub it into your hands like moisturizer and apply to dry hair in a downward motion — like you're petting yourself — then move the hair around until you find a shape that you like."

Who it works for: "Short is the new long, but taking the risk requires some research to see which short haircut works for your face. This cut works best for people who have small diamond- or heart-shaped faces and a strong sense of style," said Swayze.

Collarbone Lob

The cut: Collarbone Lob

Celebrity Inspiration: Emma Stone

Description: "Emma's cut is a collarbone-length, long-angle bob," said celebrity and editorial hairstylist Marshall Lin. "The key for this cut is to create a soft edge with a razor or point-cutting techniqu while adding on long layers to soften that edge."

Style it: Lin said, "Use Pai-Shau Royal Abundance Mousse ($26) initially for volume, then Pai-Shau Texture Dust ($24) close to the root, and follow with a lightweight and flexible hairspray."

Who it works for: "This cut softens the face and bone structure and has a lot of freedom when styling. It not discriminate on hair texture, so women with straight, curly, or wavy hair can rock it," said Lin.

Celebrity inspiration: Zoë Kravitz

Description: "Zoë has a tapered pixie cut, which is a combination cut of a 45-degree angle around the nape and sides and a 90-degree on top," said Wallace. "Razor cut is the best technique to achieve this effect."

Style it: "Use Nairobi Wrap‑it Shine Foaming Lotion ($19) to set the hair with soft waves in the front, and then use FHI's Heat Platform 1/2" Tourmaline Ceramic Flat ($112) to put slight texture in it. Then seal with a holding spray," said Wallace.

Who it works for: Wallace said this cut looks especially fab on oval-, diamond-, and heart-shaped faces.

The cut: Graduated, Layered Bob

Celebrity inspiration: Gal Gadot

Description: "Gal's wearing a long bob with graduated layers," said Wallace. "The slicing method and razor cut is great technique for achieving this haircut."

Style it: To style similarly to Gadot, Wallace said to use a one-inch flat iron to create slight bends at the midshaft. Make sure to leave about a half an inch of the ends out, then finish with a spray wax to break up the texture. Try Chi's Beauty Silver Nova 1" Flat Iron ($70) and Sexy Hair's Play Dirty Dry Wax Spray ($14).

Who it works for: This haircut is great for oval and diamond-shaped faces with soft layers around the face, Wallace noted.

'80s Fade

The cut: '80s Fade

Celebrity inspiration: Katy Perry

Description: "This is a woman's fade haircut that you saw back in the '80s punk era," said Lin. "To create, leave the top with a horseshoe section — the width will depend on the end of your eye bone. Many stylists will use a buzzer machine here, but I'd prefer using a scissor over comb to give a bit of a feminine kick for the fade and not be as extreme."

Style it: "I'd use Davines This Is a Medium Hold Finishing Gum ($32) here and finish with Pai-Shau's medium and flexible hold Sublime Hold Hairspray ($30).

Who it works for: This look works for someone who's bold and daring and ready to embrace that rocker edginess.

Soft Layers With Fringe

The cut: Soft Layers With Fringe

Celebrity inspiration: Rashida Jones

Description: "Rashida has fringe bangs with soft layers around the face," said Wallace. "Point cutting and texturizing the bangs will make them soft." This cut hits just below the shoulder, so is a nice length for anyone who doesn't want to go too short. If you curl it, it'll feel slightly more bob-like.

Style it: On damp hair, apply a straightening thermal heat protectant, such as GHD's Style Heat Protect Spray ($22). Blow-dry and style the bangs first, then go over your hair with a flat iron to further smooth. Finish with a light serum, like Paul Mitchell Smoothing Super Skinny Serum ($21).

Who it works for: "This cut goes great with any facial shape — just take into consideration the width of the bangs," said Wallace. Also note that if you want to maintain that sleek style, it'll require some extra maintenance if you've got textured hair.

90-Degree Cut

The cut: 90-Degree Cut

Celebrity inspiration: Kelly Rowland

Description: "This is a 90-degree cut, which is great to give curly texture hair a round-like shape with maximum height and volume," said Wallace. "It's best to use point cutting or razors for this texture of hair."

Style it: "My favorite product to use is Creme of Nature Argan Oil Pudding Perfection ($8) mixed with Mizani Thermasmooth Shine Extend Anti-Frizz Spritz ($18) to control frizz and define curls," said Wallace.

Who it works for: If you like this cut, you're in luck! Wallace said that any face shape can pull off this haircut. Because of the cutting technique, though, it's particularly ideal for naturally curly or wavy hair.

The cut: Vintage Pixie

Celebrity inspiration: Scarlett Johansson

Description: "This is a classically sexy short haircut worn by icons like Mia Farrow," said Lin. "The key for this cut is to create that soft-edge hairline, leaving the top section about three inches of side-cut so that while it's short, there is still room to style. The back needs to have a half-inch length from the hairline so you can still get the softness."

Style it: "Styling this cut is a breeze," noted Swayze. "On already straight hair, use a very small touch of Batiste XXL Plumping Powder ($9). When I say a touch, I mean it — this stuff is powerful and will be your new best friend. It adds immense texture for a fraction of other texturizing powders."

Who it works for: "This is a more feminine short haircut that works for women who want to show off their features without losing the option to style," said Lin.

Midi-Lob With Curtain Bangs

The cut: Midi-Lob With Curtain Bangs

Celebrity inspiration: January Jones

Description: "This is a medium-length bob with a soft bang. This haircut is soft, but you can still feel the volume and thickness," said Lin. "You want to keep the length two inches below your chin or at the base of your collarbone. For bangs, create fringe angle and point-cut or razor cut for a straight line."

Style it: Swayze said, "Apply some Bumble and Bumble Thickening Full Form Volume Mousse ($17) on wet hair and roughly dry with a blow dryer. Use a 1-1/4 curling iron and wrap random pieces of hair around the barrel, some going forward, some going backward, to create that deconstructed wave. Follow up by using a touch of IGK Down and Out Dirty Spray ($14) to give it the perfect bedhead look."

Who it works for: This cut works for someone who wants a feminine, not too-short but not too-long cut that can go glamorous or casual.
