While Australian winters might not be as biting as those in other parts of the world, they still bring a noticeable chill and enough of a change in temperature for many of us to switch up our beauty routines. It might be to counteract colder conditions (like slathering extra moisturiser on our faces and bodies to combat dry skin), or trying a new beauty trend that suits the change in season.

Beauty can be an important outlet for self-expression. Plus, when the days get shorter and the weather cooler, deeper, richer tones pair well with longer, darker nights.

All that said, here are some of our favourite winter beauty trends for 2025. They're the beauty looks we've been seeing again and again on runways, celebrities and, of course, creators on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.

Berry Lips

Winter is a great time to try berry lips, a more purple-tinged version of a red lip, though the term encompasses varying shades. Though berry lips work for summer too, they're usually lighter shades and paired with rosy cheeks. In the cooler season, complement your bold lip – achieved with a berry-coloured lipstick, gloss or stain – with hydrated skin.

Fragrance Layering

This isn't a winter-specific beauty trend — it's something we're seeing happen globally right now, and we're here for it. Rather than sticking to one fragrance, many are combining them to create an entirely unique scent. This can be in the form of layering a perfume over a scented body lotion or layering two perfumes that blend well together. It might take a bit of trial and error but once you land on your signature scent, you'll know.

Frostbitten Blush

'Frostbitten blush' is exactly what it sounds like – makeup that makes it look like you've just come in from the cold. To achieve it, add a light pink blush to your cheeks, lower than you usually would, and over your nose bridge. If you have a highlighter handy, dab it on the tip of your nose and corners of your eyes for some extra sparkle.

Scalp Care

One of the biggest beauty trends in the last few years has been scalp care. New scalp serums, oils and scrubs are always popping up. It's about treating your scalp as an extension of your face and understanding that it's key to healthy hair. It's particularly important in winter when scalp skin tends to be drier and to get forgotten in your beauty regimen.

Short Nails

Another trend we predict will blow up over winter is chic short nails. After years of long acrylics, it's short nails' time to shine. They're nails that stop ahead of your fingertips or go a bit over. We're seeing them in dark, moody hues or keeping as close to the natural nail as possible.

Glitter Eyes

Glitter eyes are the best way to brighten up wintery nights. If you don't want to go all in, use a subtle shimmer. For a bolder look, start with a primer, setting spray or, depending on what glitter you're wearing, a glitter glue. Then apply the glitter with your fingertips or a brush.

Luminous Skin

Every beauty look starts with luminous, lit-from-within skin. The best way to achieve the look is all in the prep. Keep skin cleansed, and hydrated with an extra nourishing moisturiser (and don't forget, your skin doesn't stop at your neck. Keep your body hydrated from head to toe).
