Drew Barrymore Gets Real About Body Image and Bad Decisions
Drew Barrymore stuns on the cover of InStyle's November issue and opens up about her past, present, and future. The actress, who turned 40 back in February, is gearing up for the release of her film Miss You Already as well as her third book, Wildflower, which she called "a love letter" to her young daughters, Olive and Frankie. - On her new book, Wildflower: "I want this book to be a love letter to my daughters, Frankie and Olive. They don't need to know about my sex life. My own mother, Jaid, wrote a book on sex [Secrets of World Class Lovers: Erotic Tips & Sensual Stories For a Lifetime of Sexual Fulfillment], and it was the most mortifying feeling in the world. So I know how a child feels when their parents put themselves out there too much, and I will never do that to my daughters. There are some things about your parents you just don't need to know."
- On her husband, Will Kopelman: "Will struck a lot of my pragmatic sides: he was someone who was always reachable on the phone, someone who was a classy human being, someone who had this incredible blueprint of a family that I don't have. - On body image: "I am who I am and I just don't have a bikini body. I don't even have a one-piece body anymore, but I am loving the long rash guard, board shorts look. I've beaten myself up about not being a certain thing. If someone says, 'Let's go to the beach today,' my first thought is, 'F*ck, what am I going to wear?' I remember when Amy Schumer was on Ellen, she called her midsection a 'lava lamp.' I thought, 'That was perfect! That's what I've been trying to say.' But then I saw her in Trainwreck, and she looked so good in a tiny bra and short skirt. I was like, 'No you don't have a lava lamp.'"
- On her daughters: "I'm not going to pretend to my daughters that I'm pure as the driven snow. The best I can do is open up my heart to them. That's soul-baring enough."
