Taylor Swift Gets Dismissed From Jury Duty For a Very Serious Reason

Taylor Swift was noticeably absent from the MTV Video Music Awards in New York City on Sunday night, and now the world knows why. The "Wildest Dreams" singer was a few states away in Tennessee, serving jury duty in Nashville. But despite her being, you know, a massive superstar, she proved once again that she can be as normal as they come when she spent the morning talking to the group of other potential jurors. A few people who were "lucky" enough to be summoned at the same time as Taylor took to social media to share their thoughts about their time spent with her. In addition to being more than happy to take selfies with everyone, she also listened intently when anyone had stories about how they or their children are big fans.

The day after her friendly appearance, Taylor was dismissed from jury duty due to her own involvement in a case that is similar in nature to the one she was going to potentially serve on. According to E! News, "Taylor Swift was part of the panel of prospective jurors on a case with charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape and aggravated domestic assault. Therefore, the judge excused Ms. Swift because of her pending sexual assault case against Mr. Mueller." The case that Taylor is involved in stems from an incident in 2013, when Colorado DJ "Jackson" Mueller filed a lawsuit against Taylor claiming he was fired from his radio station job after he was falsely accused of grabbing her butt while taking a photo backstage after her show. The singer then filed a counter lawsuit, which states, "Mueller did not merely brush his hand against Ms. Swift while posing for the photograph. He lifted her skirt and groped her. Resolution of this Counterclaim will demonstrate that Mueller alone was the perpetrator of the humiliating and wrongful conduct targeted against Ms. Swift, and will serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts." Taylor is demanding a jury trial and will reportedly be donating any money she wins in the case to "charitable organizations dedicated to protecting women from similar acts of sexual assault and personal disregard." Yikes.
