13 Times Celebrities Made Powerful Points About Nudity

When it comes to baring all, some celebrities are more willing than others. Earlier this year, Kim Kardashian famously grabbed headlines when she posted a naked snap on Instagram, and while many were quick to criticize her, the reality TV star quickly defended herself by saying that through her selfie she could "encourage the same empowerment for girls and women all over the world." Similarly, Demi Lovato posed completely nude for Vanity Fair in 2015 and offered some advice about confidence, stating, "What does it mean to be confident? It means letting go, being authentic, saying I don't give a f*ck and this is who I am." Of course, Demi and Kim aren't the only two stars who've opened up about nudity; check out even more celebs who've inspired us to love the skin we're in.

  • Selena Gomez: "It's just that I'm not going to give a f*ck what people say — sorry! I'm not going to care. I'm not going to let them get to me. I can do what I want. I'm not doing that all the time. It's beautiful. It's bare. I don't want diamonds and things all over me for the cover, and really thick makeup. I wanted it natural, so . . . geez!"
  • Rihanna: "You only have one life and one body. And that's yours! So own it, no matter what. Nobody else can tell you what to do."
  • Heidi Klum: "I grew up in a very easy-going family where my parents were always naked . . . My parents are still naked. I mean, it's not like we're hippies and we run around naked, but if they happened to be in their room changing or something or someone comes out of the shower, they're not, like, 'Oh my God. No. Close the door.'"
  • Cara Delevingne: "As a child, I loved being naked. My parents would have to force me to be dressed because otherwise I'd take my clothes off and run around the supermarket. Nudity was liberation to me. Freedom. My entire family is pretty nudist-y. We went to nude beaches a lot. I always wondered why the men on nude beaches had the smallest penises."

  • Miranda Kerr: "I quite like to be naked."
  • Emily Ratajkowski: "It's weird to me that the reaction to a woman's naked body is so controversial in our culture. My mum taught me to never apologize for my sexuality. My dad never made me feel embarrassed. I also don't think I've ever had an awareness of my own body as being super-sexual. It was always just my body."
  • Chelsea Handler: "I think nudity is funny, especially when it's inappropriate."
  • Amber Rose: "I know what I'm passionate about, but if I want to post a naked picture, or if I want to post a provocative picture, that's exactly what I'm going to do, because I don't have to make you happy. I make myself happy."
  • Ashley Parker Angel: "You don't have to be a fitness model or featured in the ESPN Body Issue to be proud of your physique. We all have what it takes to be the best version of ourselves we can be. Be dedicated, be passionate and be relentless in the pursuit of your dreams. Shortly, you will look back at where you started and be astounded at how far you've come and you might just be inspired enough to post a naked picture of yourself on Instagram."

  • Kim Kardashian: "I am empowered by my body. I am empowered by my sexuality. I am empowered by feeling comfortable in my skin. I am empowered by showing the world my flaws and not being afraid of what anyone is going to say about me. And I hope that through this platform I have been given, I can encourage the same empowerment for girls and women all over the world."
  • Demi Lovato: "If there's one thing I've learned in the past day, it's that life is too short. What does it mean to be confident? It means letting go, being authentic, saying I don't give a f*ck and this is who I am. I want to show the side of me that's real, that's liberated, that's free. What if we do a photo shoot where it's totally raw? Supersexy, but no makeup, no fancy lighting, no retouching, and no clothing. Let's do it here, let's do it now."
  • Lady Gaga: "I don't find it particularly shocking in the scope of the artistic world. I understand maybe because I'm a public figure it may be considered [shocking] because it's nudity. In Europe, nudity is not nearly as conservative as it is in America. I'm really proud of myself that I could take my clothes off and take my makeup off and just be there, because since I was 11 years old I didn't feel like I could."
  • Chrissy Teigen: "I am actually better in less clothing. It's a blessing and a curse."
