12 Sundance Movies You'll Be Able to Watch on Netflix and Amazon Soon

Netflix picked up this sci-fi drama way back in June 2016, before it was put on Sundance's slate. Rooney Mara and Jason Segel star in the movie alongside Sundance founder Robert Redford, who plays a scientist who proves the existence of an afterlife.

After the boom of JonBenét Ramsay TV specials released in the wake of the case's 20th anniversary, Netflix acquired this documentary. Shot over 15 months, the filmmakers conducted interviews in Ramsey's hometown to examine the lasting effect of the cast on its residents. The movie will also get a limited theatrical release, timed to the online premiere.

Netflix snapped up this post-WWII drama for a showstopping $12.5 million. The plan is to release it in theaters and online simultaneously. Garrett Hedlund, Carey Mulligan, Jason Clarke, Jason Mitchell, Mary J. Blige, Rob Morgan, and Jonathan Banks are the stars.

Amazon also paid a steep price for the Michael Showalter-directed comedy The Big Sick: $12 million. Kumail Nanjiani stars in the film, which he cowrote with his wife, Emily V. Gordon (pictured). It's based on their real-life experiences dealing with her mysterious illness. Zoe Kazan, Holly Hunter, and Ray Romano all costar.
