8 Shows to Watch If Friends Is Still Your One True Love

In the 10 years between 1994 and 2004, NBC aired 236 episodes of Friends, all of which are conveniently bingeable in their full glory on Netflix. But if you're anything like me, 236 episodes isn't nearly enough. The feeling of dread that creeps up as you approach the end of the 10th season is unbearable, especially since you know that there's no chance that there will be any more once the last episode's credits roll. In order to make sure you don't ever have to worry about what to watch next, we've pulled together eight shows that will perfectly fill the Friends-shaped hole in your heart and may even earn a place up there on your favorite show list as well.

01
New Girl
Everett Collection

New Girl

Jess (Zooey Deschanel) is an outrageously adorable and sometimes single 20-something middle school teacher who, after finding her boyfriend cheating on her, moves in with three 20-something men she found on the internet. The show follows their attempts to become adults and make it in the world and catalogs all their successes and failures along the way.

New Girl season six is currently airing on FOX, and you can watch previous seasons on Netflix.

02
How I Met Your Mother
CBS

How I Met Your Mother

The show's premise is pretty simple: all nine seasons center around Ted (Josh Radnor) telling his kids the story of how he met their mother — and all the antics he got into along the way with his friends, played by Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, and Alyson Hannigan. Regardless of what takes place during the day, the group always meets to talk it all out at their neighborhood bar, and you'll feel all the feelings one has when trying to make it both in life and in New York City.

03
Coupling

Coupling

Ask any British millennial what the UK equivalent of Friends is, and they'll resoundingly tell you it's Coupling. Centered around six friends who are trying to date and mate in 21st century London, you'll find yourself treated to the same sort of hilarity and warmth that you always got from your favorite NBC series, except it comes from the BBC. Bonus: the show is created by (and loosely based on) Steven Moffat and his wife, Sue Vertue, who are the brain trust behind Sherlock.

Watch Coupling on Hulu.

04
Happy Endings
ABC

Happy Endings

Happy Endings is one of those cult favorite shows that never should've been canceled, and the good news is there's been lots of talk this year about it being revived by USA, though this hasn't been confirmed . . . yet. Focused on six best friends living in Chicago, the show follows the ensemble cast (including Eliza Coupe, Elisha Cuthbert, Casey Wilson, and Damon Wayans) as they navigate the ups and downs of romantic relationships. The best part of the series is that there's no shortage of relationship diversity (married couple! manchild! serial dater!) and everyone can find someone in the cast that they relate to.

05
The Mindy Project
Everett Collection

The Mindy Project

Though The Mindy Project started on network TV, the show has since moved over to Hulu, where it's now begun a second life with Mindy (Mindy Kaling) navigating motherhood. Starting the show from its beginning is an absolute delight. There's nothing quite like watching her try and balance relationships with coworkers, lovers, and friends as she juggles being an OBGYN, bosslady, and single woman in the city.

06
That '70s Show
Everett Collection

That '70s Show

If you were to take Friends and relocate the cast to Wisconsin, put them back in high school, and set the show in the 1970s, what you'd come up with is That '70s Show. Though the stakes are much lower as the kids are just starting out in life, the dynamics between the main characters are very, very similar, and you'll find yourself laughing just as hard.

Watch That '70s Show on Netflix.

07
Sex and the City
HBO

Sex and the City

There are few shows that are quite as iconic as Sex and the City, and, in truth, it makes a great pair with Friends. Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) is a sex-and-relationship columnist who goes out and experiences life to the fullest with her three best friends and always goes home at the end of the night to write about it.

08
Seinfeld
Everett Collection

Seinfeld

It wouldn't be fair to have a list of shows that center on a unique group of friends without mentioning Seinfeld! Jerry Seinfeld stars as the quintessential New Yorker who doesn't go a day of his whole life without interacting with his pals, Elaine, George, and Kramer. Expect a lot of complaining about the most annoying things in life (which, amazingly, haven't changed much since the '90s when the show aired) and some great stylin' outfits from Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who steals the show in many of the episodes.
