6 Ed Sheeran Music Videos That Will Destroy Your Emotions

Ed Sheeran writes some of the most beautiful and catchy pieces of music out there, and while it's exciting to see him in concert or listen to a playlist of his songs, one of the best ways to capture the emotions in his songs is through his music videos. The 26-year-old singer/songwriter released his first music video for "The A Team" back in 2010, and though it's definitely one of the most emotional, he's since put out several other videos that are sure to leave you drowning in a puddle of your own tears for one reason or another.

Ahead, we gathered the six Ed Sheeran music videos sure to completely f*ck with your emotions (and now that Divide is a chart-topper, we're sure there will be videos for his new tearjerkers soon, hopefully including "Supermarket Flowers").

"The A Team"

Sheeran's first single, "The A Team," was inspired by a charity show he played at a temporary homeless shelter in London when he was 18. There he met Angel (for whom he says he wrote the song), "who had been trouble" before coming to the shelter. He described the entire experience as "a bit of a wake-up call." The video, which follows the life of a woman living on the streets, begging for money, dabbling in prostitution, and taking drugs, is absolutely heartbreaking.

"Give Me Love"

My personal favorite Ed Sheeran song, "Give Me Love," carries a ton of emotion on its own, but the video goes even further to really make the viewer feel all of the things at once. It begins with the police walking into a crime scene in which a girl is pictured with an arrow through her neck. The video backtracks, though, following the woman through an interesting journey as she sprouts wings and morphs into Cupid, shooting arrows at people on the streets and causing them to instantly fall in love. However, the woman appears to want her own love story and jams an arrow into her own neck, which results in the gruesome opening scene. It ends happier than it starts, but we won't spoil the roller coaster of emotion for you.

"Small Bump"

"Small Bump" is written about the painful experience of losing a baby during pregnancy, which unfortunately is not uncommon. Although he sings from a first-person perspective and stars in the video, he actually wrote the song after witnessing his friends suffer the loss of their child. As Sheeran sings the emotional lyrics, he's pictured in a hospital waiting room while patients come and go, until the end, when he delivers the final lyrics — "'Cos you were just a small bump unborn for four months, then torn from life / Maybe you were needed up there but we're still unaware as why" — with a mournful-looking woman in the seats behind him.

"All of the Stars"

This song, which Sheeran wrote for The Fault in Our Stars, is a complete heartbreaker (I mean, duh, the movie itself leaves viewers in tears), and the video is no different. The song is paired with shots of inspirational quotes and art, some of which come from the film itself (such as the well-known line: "OK?" "OK.") and features brief clips of Hazel and Gus, the movie's main characters. The video closes with a somber Ed Sheeran on a couch, all of the aforementioned doodles and quotes plastered on the wall behind him. It's deep, guys.

"Photograph"

If you don't feel nostalgic and a bit unsteady while watching the video for "Photograph" — aka a video of strung-together clips of Sheeran's childhood — then you may not be human. Seeing Sheeran grow — from a giggling baby to an adorable child with thick glasses, then a tween learning how to play piano, to a teen strumming a guitar on the street and an adult playing sold-out shows — is not only a sweet and raw look into his past, but an impossible-to-resist excuse to reminisce about your own childhood memories. (And if you love Ed Sheeran like I do, it's also an excuse to feel insanely proud of his journey from an innocent, humble child to an internationally known grown-up artist.)

"Thinking Out Loud"

"Thinking Out Loud" has become the go-to wedding dance song, and in the video, Sheeran ballroom dances in fancy wedding attire. The singer learned to dance just for this video and said in a behind-the-scenes clip that while he "never wanted to quit something so much" in the beginning, "dancing is the most fun thing in the world when you know how to do it." Although beautiful and happy more than anything else, this stunning dance routine will still manage to bring a tear to your eye.
