This Little Girl Signing With Her Deaf Mentor About Her Baby Sister in the NICU Is So Sweet

Grateful For Community

"This is my daughter Neeva, who is Deaf, with our Deaf mentor. They are visiting our newborn daughter, Asha, in the NICU. Deaf children need Deaf adults! What better way to learn, than from someone who has had your same experience? As the parents of a deaf child, we have learned everything we know from our amazing Deaf community of teachers, friends, and mentors. This evening our dear friend and Neeva's deaf mentor came to meet Asha at the hospital. Emilie Wilding explained to Neeva everything that was happening with her baby sister, and did so in a way that Alaina Goff and I couldn't (We give our best effort!). It was an amazing moment, and we feel so blessed to have a Deaf daughter, and such an amazing community of people surrounding her (and us)."

Neeva, an adorable little girl who happens to be deaf, had a heck of a lot of questions when it came to her newborn baby sister, Asha, who was recovering in the NICU. And although both her parents do their very best to communicate with her, sometimes Neeva's deaf mentor, Emilie Wilding, can get through to her a little bit easier. In a video on Love What Matters, you can see just how strong Neeva and Emilie's bond is as they discuss baby Asha.

The girls' mom explained exactly why having a deaf mentor is so important for her daughter, saying:

What better way to learn, than from someone who has had your same experience? As the parents of a deaf child we have learned everything we know from our amazing deaf community of teachers, friends, and mentors. This evening our dear friend and Neeva's deaf mentor [Emilie] came to meet Asha at the hospital. Emilie Wilding explained to Neeva everything that was happening with her baby sister, and did so in a way that Alaina Goff and I couldn't (We give our best effort!). It was an amazing moment, and we feel so blessed to have a deaf daughter, and such an amazing community of people surrounding her (and us).

Hopefully, this touching video will bring more awareness to the deaf community and best of luck to Neeva in her journey as a big sister!
