How to Build the Perfect Lunchbox

How to Build a No-Fail Lunchbox in Just 3 Steps

Nobody ever said they had too much time in the morning, so we've partnered with Welch's® Fruit Snacks to help you pack lunch in a snap.

Prime lunchbox season is back upon us, and this year, you’re going to nail it. We’ve come up with the absolute easiest game plan out there — three steps to follow every morning, stress-free. Start with a well-stocked pantry and fridge, then get packing. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Add Interest to the Main Dish

Switch things up every day with options like their favorite sandwich (use cookie cutters to make them special) and chicken nuggets in fun shapes. Make a big batch of mini meatballs over the weekend, and pack them with spiral-cut zucchini or squash noodles for a nutrient-rich meal. Or, if you know your little one loves a particular restaurant meal (say, fried chicken or pizza), recreate a healthy, kid-friendly version for their lunch.

Step 2: Keep It Simple With Two-Step Sides

Come up with a repertoire of tasty two-ingredient sides like hummus with carrot sticks; celery and peanut butter; and tomato and mozzarella “skewers.” By adding fun combos to eat, you'll ensure that their lunchbox comes back empty. Got a more adventurous eater? You can even try more unusual combinations, like baked sweet potato wedges and maple syrup.

Step 3: Add a Treat You Both Love

A kiddie meal is never complete without a snack. Add a little something fun like Welch's® Fruit 'n Yogurt Snacks, pretzels, or trail mix that they’ll be excited to see in their lunchbox, and you’ll feel good feeding them. Treats don't only have to be food, either. You can also drop in a cootie catcher or a handwritten knock-knock joke for a little lunchtime fun!
